Accident claims life of Demopolis woman

A three-vehicle accident Wednesday on U.S. Highway 80 west of Selma, involving a dump truck, claimed the life of a Demopolis woman and hospitalized three others.

Earnestine Johnson, 77, of Demopolis, was killed in the crash that occurred shortly before noon. She was a passenger in the backseat of a 1999 Dodge Caravan driven by Eleanor Hanners, 66, of Chalimmette, La.

Christy D. Reynolds, 34, of Demopolis was a front seat passenger.

Beverly Ann West Baker, 30, of Selma, the driver of a 2001 Chevrolet Tahoe, was also injured in the accident, Alabama state troopers said.

A 2007 Mack truck waited at the light headed north on Highway 219, when the Dodge Caravan in the eastbound lane on U.S. 80 approached Ala. Highway 219. The Tahoe in the westbound lane of U.S. 80 attempted to make a left onto Ala. 219 when the crash occurred, troopers said.

Johnson was pronounced dead at the scene. Hanners, Reynolds and Baker were transported to Vaughan Regional Medical Center.

The driver of the dump truck was not injured. The truck received minor damage. The SUV and the minivan were destroyed.
