The hometown bank has become BankTrust after a recent merger, which makes the new bank the fifth largest in Alabama.

Livingston lived in Selma for 28 years, and is familiar to folks and the banking community.

Livingston, who assumed his role

since Oct. 19, is selling his home in Brewton, where he still spends the weekends. Livingston and his wife, Andrea, have two sons. Tanner lives and Birmingham and John lives in Atlanta.

Andy Bearden, Selma BankTrust chief financial officer, said Livingston’s familiarity will help in the transition and it pays dividends with customers.

Reid Cain, BankTrust senior vice president of commercial lending, replaced Livingston at SouthTrust in Selma after he left. Now they’ll be working together.

Livingston, who was raised in Birmingham, joined the Air Force and was ordered to report to Craig Air Force Base in 1970 after completing officer training school in San Antonio, Texas. He served four years.

He worked with the former SouthTrust Bank for 20 years and worked for Peoples Bank in Greenville for four years before moving to Brewton, where he’d been for the past five years.
