Daniel Lee was named MVP, but it was a tag-team effort with Weston Mason that got Morgan the championship.
Mason hit a 3-pointer that gave the Senators a lead late in the game, and Lee hit 3-of-4 free throws to help the Senators pull away with a 57-52 win over Central Christian in the final game of the Brian Scott Tournament Tuesday.
Before Mason’s 3 put the Senators ahead 51-50 with 1:15 left in the game, they had not led since they were up 6-5 at the 2:50 mark of the first quarter. Lee then increased the lead to 4 with a pair of trips to the line.
“I was nervous a little bit, but I knew I had to make those free throws,” Lee said. “I knew we had the game when Weston hit that 3.”
The Warriors’ only field goal in the last 4 1/2 minutes was a Bryant Rawls 8-footer that pulled CCA to 54-52. He led the team with 15 points.
Tarius Richardson – who along with Akeem Ghantt had 14 points for CCA – fouled out with 43 seconds left, and Morgan went on to shoot 6-for-8 from the line to close out the game.
Logan Cowart led Morgan with 22 points and hit an outside shot that cut CCA’s lead to 44-43 with 3:53 to play. Lee scored 15 points, and Mason had nine.
