Potentially dangerous frozen sausage rolls shipped to Alabama apparently weren’t sent to Selma, as all three major grocers say they don’t carry the products.
Double B Foods, Inc., announced a voluntary recall on 98,000 pounds of the products that may contain Listeria monocytogenes, which if consumed could be a potentially fatal.
Jerry Houston, manager of Winn Dixie on Highland Avenue said they don’t carry any of the Double B products. Wal-Mart manager Victor Morrow said neither do they.
Calhoun Foods manager Jimmy Coleman said they don’t either, but if they had ordered any they would have been alerted.
The U.S. Department of Agriculture announced the company’s plans to recall the products Thursday, which include breakfast sausage rolls, and sausage in a blanket. The frozen sausage rolls were produced on various dates.
Consumption of food containing Listeria monocytogenes can cause listeriosis, a rare but potentially fatal disease. It can kill babies and adults with weakened immune systems, and cause miscarriages in pregnant women. Symptoms include fever, headache, stiffness, nausea, abdominal pain and diarrhea.
The Texas based Double B Foods said the potentially contaminated products were shipped to Alabama, Arkansas, Florida, Georgia, Louisiana, Mississippi, New Jersey, New Mexico, New York, Oklahoma, and Pennsylvania, the company told the Associated Press.
