Catherine James Smith
Catherine James Smith born June 25, 1924, died October 23, 2007.
Graveside service will be held November 2, 2007 at 2:00 pm, Elwood Cemetery with Rev. James Jackson officiating, Pastor of Brown Chapel A. M. E. Church. Directed by Lewis Brother Funeral Home.
Catherine was born in Bessemer AL to the late Robert James and Alice Stoudemire. The granddaughter of the late Henry and Mary James.
She moved to Selma at an early age and joined the Brown Chapel A. M. E. Church under the late Rev. C. Mosley. Educated in Selma Public School system under Principle R. W. Stone.
She moved to Philadelphia, Pennsylvania in he early 50’s where she remained until her health failed her in 2004. She returned to Selma, AL and remained until she died.
Catherine leaves to cherish her memories are; one adopted child Tariq (Helen) Muwwakkil, of Selma, AL; two cousins Lula Coleman of Selma, AL, Margaret (Edward) Thomas of Baltimore, Maryland; two cousins preceded her in death; Richard (Francis) Moody of Selma, AL, Robert (Addie) Johnson of St Alban, New York; a host of relatives and friends.
James Marvin Godard
James Marvin Godard, age 77, of Selma died November 1, 2007 at home. Graveside services will be held at 11:00 A.M. Saturday November 3, 2007 at Pineview Memory Gardens officiated by Rev. Patrick Grindle and directed by Lawrence Brown-Service Funeral Home. He is survived by his wife of 50 Years, June McCullough Godard, his son, Frank Godard, his daughter, Monica (Patrick) Grindle, grandchildren, James and Emily Grindle, sisters, Faye (Lance) Nielsen and Raye (Virgil) Graves. He was preceded in death by his daughter, Jamie Godard, parents, Chester and Treacy Melton Godard, sister, Jeanett (Harley) Hopkins, and brother, Cecil Goddard. Nephews will serve as active pallbearers with honorary pallbearers being Kent Harris, Roy Thomley, Nevile Colley, and Lloyd Henderson. Family visitation will be Friday November 2, 2007 from 6:00 P.M. to 8:00 P.M. at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers the family suggests donations to one’s favorite charity.
James Lee Heard
James Lee Heard, 69, a resident of Selma, passed Friday, October 26, 2007, at Jackson Hospital in Montgomery, AL.
Service will be held Saturday, November 3, 2007 at 12:00 noon at the Mt. Gilead Baptist Church Hwy 183 Sprott, AL. Burial in the Church Cemetery. Lee and Rollins Funeral Home Directing.
Josephine J. Peterson
Josephine J. Peterson, 85, a resident of Selma passed October 22, 2007. Funeral services are scheduled for Saturday, November 3, 2007 a 12 noon from Ebenezer Baptist Church with Pastor F. D. Reese officiating. Burial will follow in the Pineview Memorial Gardens with J. H. Williams & Sons Funeral Home directing.
At an early age Mrs. Peterson confessed Christ and was baptized and joined Salem #2 Baptist Church in Minter, AL. She later joined the Greater St. Paul Missionary Baptist Church in Selma, where she remained and served as an active, loyal and faithful member until her health prevented her from church activities. She was also a member of the Usher Board and a Deaconette and a member of the Usher Crusade.
Mrs. Peterson was also a member of Phyllis Wheatley Chapter No. 656 Order of Eastern Stars.
She was married to Leroy &8220;Jack&8221; Peterson for 65 years and to this union five children were born.
She is survived by her five children; a loving and devoted daughter Susie P. Watkins of Selma; four sons, Leroy A. Peterson, Jr. and Benjamin E. Peterson of Los Angeles, CA, Christopher C. Peterson of Selma, and James N. Peterson also of Los Angeles, CA; two sisters Mapple Lamar of San Antonio, TX and Essie Singleton of Selma; two brothers, Woodie Johnson and Melvin Johnson of Buffalo, NY; 16 grandchildren, 16 great grandchildren and a host of other very close relatives and friends.
Mamie Hatcher Smith
Mamie Hatcher Smith, 59, resident of Selma, AL, died Monday October 29, 2007 in Alabaster. Funeral services are scheduled for Saturday November 3, 2007, 2:00 pm at John The Baptist Church, officiated by Rev. Curtis Williams. Burial will follow in the Lake cemetery, Cahaba, directed by Miller Funeral Service.
Mamie is survived by two sons, Cleon (Sarah) Hatcher, and John (Ann Eva) Thomas; one daughter, Addie K. Butler; three brothers, Lawrence Watts, Jessie James Bates and Ebb; one sister, Ethel (James) McMillian; six grandchildren, one son-in-law; two daughters-in-law; one brother-in-law; one sister-in-law; and a host of nieces, nephews.

Marvin Parker, 49, a resident of Selma, passed Thursday, Oct.25, 2007 at his home. Services will be Saturday, November 3, 2007 at Selma West Village Church of The Nazarene, (located in front of the Cigar Factory) 203 Hobson Street Selma, AL. with Dr. Pastor Brenda J. Tyus officiating. Directed by Lewis Brothers Funeral Home.
Mr. Wesley Williams
Mr. Wesley Williams, 76, resident of Dallas County, died Sunday October 28, 2007 at Vaughan Regional Medical Center. Graveside services are scheduled for Saturday November 3, 2007, 11:00 am at The Pope’s cemetery. Officiated by Rev. Curtis Williams, directed by Miller Funeral Service.
Wesley is survived by one son, Cassanova Gibson; four daughters, Patsy Williams Butler, Wanda Williams, Ethel Mae Wiilliams and Tiny Williams; three sisters, Addie Riddles, Ethel Irby and Mary Curtis; a host of grandchildren,
great grandchildren, great great grandchildren; nieces and nephews.

Mrs. Rosie Lee LeShore, 94, resident of Orrville, AL died Sunday October 28, 2007 at Vaughan Regional Medical Center. Rosie is survived by two sons, Cleveland (Rhonda) LeShore and George Whitt; seventeen grandchildren,
and a host of nieces, nephews and friends.

Mr. Willie Lake
Mr. Willie Lake, 52, resident of Jacksonville, FL, formerly of Orrville, AL,
died Friday October 19, 2007 in Jacksonville, FL. Funeral services are scheduled for Saturday November 3, 2007, 12:00 noon at New Bethel Church. Officiated by Rev. Curtis Williams. Burial will follow in the Church cemetery, directed by Miller Funeral Service.
Willie is survived by one son, Jimmy Smith; two daughters, Tonya Mosley and Kelly Lake; three brothers, Bezell (Mattie) Westbrook, Lonnie Lake, and Andrew (Bettie) Lake; three sisters, Geraldine Johnson, Laura Irby, Earline (Jasper) White and Evelyn Westbrook; two grandchildren, a host of nieces, nephews and other friends, a special and devoted friend, Linda Jones.
Onie Lewis Jackson
Onie Lewis &8220;Arnie&8221; Jackson, died in Gadsden, AL on Thursday, November 1, 2007 after an extended illness. Private graveside services will be held at New Live Oak Cemetery in Selma on Friday, November 2, 2007 at 1:00 PM with the Reverend Billy York of New Beacon Hospice officiating and Lawrence Brown-Service Funeral Home directing. He was born in Selma, AL August 19, 1931, and spent many years there before moving to Gadsden. He was a member of Meadowbrook Baptist Church, Gadsden. After serving in the Marines he worked for Weil Brothers Cotton in Montgomery until his retirement. He was preceeded in death by his mother, Evelyn Hood, his brother, Jerry Jackson and grandson Charlie Nessmith. He is survived by his loving wife, Nelda, son David (Teresa), Dayton Ohio, daughters Judice McKenzie, Birmingham and Bonnie Nessmith, Athens, GA. He is also survived by 5 grandchildren, 6 great grandchildren, brother, John, Selma, and an extended family of nieces and nephews. The family would especially like to thank the devoted caregivers (Olene Bishop, and Tammy and Regina with New Beacon Hospice) who cared for Onie during his illness. Mr. Robert Smith, Jr., 90, resident of Selma, AL, died Wednesday October 24, 2007 at Vaughan Regional Medical Center. Funeral services are scheduled for Saturday November 3, 2007, 1:00 pm at Sandridge Baptist Church. Officiated by Rev. Brown. Burial will follow in the Church cemetery. Directed by Miller Funeral Service.
Robert was preceded in death by his wife and parents.
He is survived by one son, Bobby Smith of Selma, AL; five daughters, Carolyn Smith of Cleveland, Ohio, Joyce Smith of Selma, AL, Mary Swift of Selma, AL, Geneva Jiles of Atlanta, GA and Dondiella Smith of Atlanta, GA; four brothers, Laurdell (Beulah) Smith, Samuel (Juanita) Smith, Frank (Mollie) Smith and Sylvester Smith all of Selma, AL; one sister, Lula Mae Suttles of Selma, AL; sixteen grandchildren; twenty two great grandchildren; In-laws a host of nieces and nephews.

Mrs. Annie B. Collier, age 79 of Demopolis, Alabama passed October 29, 2007 at her residence.
Funeral Services will be held Sunday, November 4, 2007 at 1:00 p.m. at the Moscow Baptist Church, Demopolis, Alabama.
Rev. Timothy Page will officiate. Interment will follow in the adjoining cemetery.
Remains will repose at the church on Sunday
beginning at 12:00 noon.
Public viewing will be held Saturday from 1-7 p.m. at the funeral home.
