John Henderson of Selma, who authorities believe is in his 60s, was arrested following the accident and booked at the Selma Police Department on a charge of DUI.

Henderson, who was transported to Vaughan Regional Medical Center as a precaution, remained in jail Saturday night. DUI recipients are transported to Dallas County Jail, where they must remain incarcerated for eight hours and then post $45 bond. Henderson didn’t sustain major injuries in the crash with the police Ford Crown Victoria.

Walker, who was on duty, lost control of the vehicle upon impact and knocked over a sign that directed traffic to U.S. 80, nearly missing a power pole.

The accident occurred in the intersection of Griffin Avenue and Broad Street, next to Church’s Chicken.

Witnesses said the Escort and the unmarked police car collided as the police car was headed northbound and the Escort was attempting to turn into the restaurant’s parking lot.

Both the Escort and the Crown Victoria sustained front end damage. Authorities didn’t have a dollar estimate at the scene of the accident.
