Demario Benjamin walked out of court Tuesday as a free man.
After deliberating, a Dallas County circuit court jury found the 22-year-old Selma man not guilty of rape.
After hearing the verdict, the victim’s mother fainted. An ambulance reportedly took her to Vaughan Regional Medical Center.
Benjamin was one of four men indicted on a charge of rape. The others &045; Jarvis Wormley, Sheldrick Effinger and Donta Allen &045; are scheduled for trials in February.
Benjamin’s attorney, Patrick Arrington, said he was satisfied with the verdict.
The victim accused the four men of raping her at Bloch Park in the early morning hours of June 4, 2005.
The district attorney left the courtroom without comment.
