Local family scheduled for Maury’ today

A 10-year-old Dallas County girl nearly abducted Aug. 22 from a school bus stop by a convicted pedophile has made a trip to California and taped her story, which is set to be aired today on the Maury Povich Show.

The segment is scheduled to be seen on the syndicated program hosted by Maury Povich at 5 p.m. Wednesday on WNCF-TV.

Joe Earl &8220;Puddin&8221; Edwards, 52, remains in the Dallas County Jail on $500,000 bond after he was captured within minutes of the attempted abduction.

He had been convicted of a prior offense involving a 10-year-old female relative and had spent a year in jail.

Edwards, a registered sex offender, appeared in Dallas County District Court for a preliminary hearing in which he admitted he had wanted to &8220;date&8221; the girl. In examination, he said that by &8220;date&8221; he meant he wanted to have sex with her.

During taping of the program a few weeks ago, the child’s mother told Povich she believed Edwards had been stalking her daughter.

A family that inspired the Dallas County family to go public on TV made a surprise appearance during the taping and sat with the local family during the taping, according to Associated Press reports.
