County approves budget

They’ve borrowed from the tens, carried the one and believe they have the numbers straight.

On Monday, the Dallas County Commission approved the 2007/2008 budget. The $18 million budget does not vary much from the 2006/2007, according to Commission Chairman Kim Ballard.

The general fund budget is $11,312,000 and the balance is earmarked for the road department and maps and appraisals, according to Commissioner Roy Moore.

The rising price of gas and County Jail inmate care was much higher this past fiscal year and the budget had to be adjusted accordingly.

Those expenses have been included in the new budget.

The finance staff were praised for their diligence in getting the budget done.

In other business, members of the Central Alabama Lions Club approached the commission asking Oct. 1 to Oct. 6 be proclaimed County Fair Week and the Commission so obliged. Ed Greene, Lions Club immediate past president, extended an invitation to Opening Ceremonies Monday, Oct. 1 at 5 p.m.
