Willie Mae Vasser Brantley

Willie Mae Vasser Brantley entered into eternal rest on Sept. 16, 2007, in San Antonio, Texas following a period of declining health and strength.

The span of her earthly pilgrimage was 74 years.

Today we rejoice in knowing she has passed the barrier of time, as we know it, and is forever at home with her Saviour.

She was born in Selma, Ala. to the late Louis and Mozella Vasser, Jr. on July 20, 1933.

She moved to Cincinnati, Ohio in the late 1960’s, where she met and married Frank Brantley,

After living in Ohio for 32 years, she moved to San Antonio, Texas in 1992 in order to be closer to her daughter.

She is preceded in death by her husband, Frank; brothers, Herbert, Joseph and Simon Vasser.

She leaves to cherish her memory a loving daughter, Annie &8220;Pearl&8221; Olison; son-in-law, Daniel C. Olison, Jr.; five brothers, Robert, Valentine, Samuel, William &8220;Jimmie,&8221; and Louis &8220;Johnny&8221; III; three sisters, Annie Celli, Mary Louis, and Mary Ann; one grandson, Frederick Wayne (Erin) Olison; three great-grandchildren, Ahndre, Dion and Dominique and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

Graveside services will be Saturday, Sept. 22, 2007, at 10 a.m. at Pineview Memory Gardens with Rev. S. M.

Nealson officiating and Selma Funeral Home directing. Visitation will be Friday, Sept.21, 2007, from 6 to 8 p.m.

William &8220;Bill&8221; Boyd Stevenson

William &8220;Bill&8221; Boyd Stevenson, age 73, of Marietta Georgia passed away on Wednesday, Sept. 19, 2007. Bill, the youngest of three, was born in Uniontown, a small rural town in the heart of Alabama.

After graduating from high school, Bill attended Auburn University, and served in the US Air Force where he was stationed in France and enjoyed being a jet engine mechanic. Excited by the fast pace of computer technology, Bill entered the fledgling data processing field in the late 1950’s, eventually becoming an accomplished programmer for Wesley Woods in 1970.

He later retired from Wesley Woods in the early 90’s due to declining health. Bill was preceded in death by his father Lamar Edward Stevenson Sr., mother Mary Stevenson Kirk, brother Lamar Edward Stevenson Jr., and his infant son Richard Thomas Stevenson. Bill is survived by his daughters Donna Stevenson of Decatur and Nancy Stevenson of Smyrna, sons David Stevenson and Paul E. Stevenson of Smyrna, grandson R. Logan Stevenson of Douglasville, sister Mary Sanderson of Uniontown Ala., and ex-wife Jean Stevenson of Marietta. Bill’s body was cremated.

A memorial service will be held for Bill on Friday, Sept. 21, 2 p.m., at Saint Philip United Methodist Church in Marietta.

Reverend Danny Alexander will preside. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to the Wesley Woods long term care facility on Clifton Rd. in Atlanta. Cremation Society of Georgia 404- 355-7627.

Mrs. Rebecca Phillips-Burrell

Mrs. Rebecca Phillips-Burrell, age 83 of Demopolis, Ala. passed Sept. 19, 2007, at D.C.H. Regional Medical Center, Tuscaloosa, Ala.

Funeral Services will be held Saturday, Sept. 22, 2007, at 1 p.m. at Christian Chapel Baptist Church, Demopolis, Ala.

The Rev. Fred Moore will officiate. st.

Interment will follow in Memorial Gardens Cemetery, Demopolis, Ala.

The remains will repose at the church on Saturday beginning at 12

noon.

Public viewing will be held Friday from 1 to 7 p.m. at the funeral home.

Mr. Greg Benison, age 41 of Forkland, Ala. passed Sept. 16, 2007, at his residence.

Funeral Services will be held Saturday, Sept. 22, 2007, at 1 p.m. at the St. Matthew Watson Baptist Church, Boligee, Ala.

The Rev. Christopher Spencer will officiate.

Interment will follow in Lloyd Chapel Memorial Gardens Cemetery, Forkland, Ala.

The remains will repose at the church on Saturday beginning at 12 noon.

Public viewing will be held Friday from 1 to 7 p.m. at the funeral home.

Ruby Maddox Jones

Ruby Maddox Jones, age 88, of Selma died Wednesday Sept. 19, 2007, in a local hospital. Graveside Services will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday Sept. 22, 2007, at New Live Oak Cemetery officiated by Lawrence Brown-Service Funeral Home officiated by Dr. John Niblett. Mrs. Jones is survived by her son, Kenneth Jones of Millbrook, daughter-in-law, Donna Jones of

Decatur, Texas, sisters, Myrtle Hicks of Gadsden, Helen Gardner of Montgomery, Mary Ann McCain of Montgomery, Maudine Riley of Centreville, and brother, Jimmy Maddox of Letohatchee. The family will receive friends from 12 p.m. to 1:30 p.m. Saturday at the funeral home.

Mr. Roosevelt Watts

Mr. Roosevelt Watts, 72, a resident of Beloit, died Sept. 18, 2007, at

his residence.

Funeral services will be Saturday, Sept. 22, 2007, at 1 p.m. at New Hope, Blackwell Bend officiated by the Rev. Willie A. Wright Burial will follow at Dr. Henry Cemetery directed by Miller Funeral Service.

Survivors include two sons, Michael Watts and Sylvester (Wanda) Watts; one brother, Wilson (Hattie) Watts; one aunt, Viola G. Phillips and god brother, Cleophus Blackmon; eight grandchildren; four great grandchildren and a host of nieces and nephews and friends; special cousins, Lee Anna Brantley and Lou Ella Guthridge and a special friend Luria Hudson.

Mary Riley Gentry

Mary Riley Gentry passed away on Sept. 19, 2007 in Arlington, Texas.

She was born June 24, 1913 in Bessemer, Ala.

She was preceded in death by her husband, James Milford Gentry in 1995.

She is survived by one daughter, two granddaughters and their husbands and two great grandchildren all of Texas.

She was a member of First Presbyterian Church in Selma.

In Lieu of flowers, remembrances may be made to the church.

Services are private.

Louise Baker Teel

Louise Baker Teel, age 83, of Selma died Wednesday Sept. 19, 2007.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday Sept. 22, 2007, in the Chapel of Lawrence Brown-Service Funeral Home

officiated by the Rev. Joe Britton.

Burial will follow at the New Live Oak Cemetery.

Mrs. Teel was born Dec. 21, 1923, in Chilton County and moved to Selma in 1959. She ran the Board Street Grocery from 1959 until 1967. She then worked at the Yellow Food Store until her retirement. Mrs. Teel is survived by her children, Calvin (Carol) Teel, Jr. of Plano, Texas; Charles (Diane) Teel, Savannah, Ga; Roger (Ruby) Teel of Selma; Nancy (Douglas) Nichols of Selma; nine grandchildren and 14 great grandchildren; several nieces and nephews including special niece Jackie (Lee) Peake of Selma. She is preceded in death by her parents, John Baker and Florance Lockhart Baker; husband, JD Calvin Teel; children, Peggy Louise Teel and Tommy Ray Teel; sisters, Mary Wyatt, Sara Baker, Maggie Johnson, Doll Gore and Jewell Edwards; brother, Marshall Baker.

Pallbearers will be Mike Strokes, Ronnie Harrell, Raymond Teel, Calvin Teel, III, Mike Teel and Jon Charles Teel. Honorary pallbearers will be Dr. William Hinson, Dr. Robert Anderson, Bob Sanders, Dennis Haught, Lee Peake, Carl Baker and friends from 1st Presbyterian Nutrition Center.

The family will receive friends from 10 a.m. to 11 a.m. Saturday at Lawrence Funeral Home.

Juanita Caver

Juanita Caver, 85, a resident of Chicago, formerly of Selma, Ala. died Sept. 15, 2007, in Chicago, Ill.

Funeral services will be Saturday, Sept. 22, 2007, at 12 p.m. at Miller’s Chapel officiated by

Survivors include one daughter, Ruby Peak; one brother,

Genea Marie Garetino

Genea Marie Garetino, age 31, passed away Sept. 18, 2007.

She was preceded in death by her parents Michael Garetino, Sr. and Sandra Pitre Garetino.

Surviving are her daughter, Linda Garetino; brother, Michael Garetino, Jr.; grandmother, Evelyn Hotard,; uncles, Honore Muntz and Lester Hotard and aunts, Joyce Arnold and Deborah Pipkins.

Funeral services will be Saturday, Sept. 22, 2007, at 5 p.m. at Selma Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Scott Wright officiating and Selma Funeral Home directing.

Visitation will be prior to the service from 3:30 to 5 p.m.
