GRIER &045; The annual festival originally established more than 119 years ago by a benevolent society was marred Thursday night by the shooting death of a Marengo County man, in what authorities believe was a domestic dispute.

The victim was identified as Claude Lloyd, 52, of Linden. Authorities said a female was taken into custody for questioning.

Hale County Sheriff Kenneth Ellis supervised the towing of the sport utility the man was reportedly seated in when the shooting occurred.

The victim had gotten into a Ford Explorer and was seated behind the wheel of the SUV when he was apparently struck by a single gunshot in the neck. Hale County Coroner Howard Paige pronounced the victim dead at the scene.

Ellis declined to comment on any details surrounding the shooting, saying the investigation was ongoing.

Lloyd was transported from the scene by Phillip White Funeral Home, then on to Montgomery by the Alabama Department of Forensic Sciences for a post mortem examination.

Several attendees shook their heads as the hearse made its way out of the festival staging area. &8220;They had been arguing. She was waving the gun at him and it went off,&8221; said one witness, who asked not to be identified.
