The fans at Morgan Field never let up Friday night and never let their team down.

Coach Robert Gartman and his Morgan Senators’ young defense have been placed under a microscope in recent weeks, but Friday they came through with a 28-14 win over Hooper Academy (1-3, 1-2 Region).

The Senators have not started a season 0-3 for more than 20 years, and the win stopped a four-game streak to begin the year.

The Senators’ (1-3, 1-2) Logan Cowart went 85 yards on an interception to set up Heath Harrelson’s 3-yard touchdown and a 7-0 lead.

Harrelson finished the game with 25 carries, 202 yards and three touchdowns.

Freshman Austin Smitherman had 17 carries, 64 yards and one touchdown for the Senators.

Gartman said earlier in the year only time and playing experience could help his team, and it finally paid off in a victory.
