Howard an excellent choice

To the Editor:

The Selma City Board of Education made an excellent hire when they appointed Debra Howard as vice president.

Howard is well respected by the community and the students and is just what the doctor ordered, a vice president who is fair but firm.

She’s a young lady who the students can approach and not be afraid to voice their opinions. Exactly what this board needed.

The old school board showed exactly why we need an elected city school board. Who in their right mind would hire anyone, on any job without a background check?

My next question: Why are we searching the United States of America for a new school superintendent instead of picking up the phone and offering the job to an educator who the community respects and trusts their kids with.
