Water use under mandatory restriction

Published 12:00 am Monday, August 27, 2007

To the Editor:

Again, the Water Works and Sewer Board of the City of Selma would like to thank the customers who followed the voluntary water restriction guidelines over the past couple of months. Your voluntary cooperation really made a difference and we thank you.

The continuation of drought conditions is putting the levels within our wells at a critical state. Because of this, it is necessary to increase restrictions. If you have been voluntarily restricting your water usage, please continue to do so. However, if you have not been voluntarily complying with restrictions, be advised that the Selma Water and Sewer Board has no choice but to strictly enforce these restrictions.

The way we defined the areas was confusing to many people. Therefore, this notice changes the description so that they are easier to understand.

& Customers with addresses ending with odd numbers (1, 3, 5, 7 and 9) such as 1501 or 1305 can water outside on Monday and Thursday only.

& Customers with addresses ending with even numbers (0, 2, 4, 6 and 8) such as 1502 and 1304 can water outside on Tuesday and Friday only.

& All outside watering times are still between 8 p.m. and 8 a.m.

& There should be no outside water use on Wednesday, Saturday and Sunday.

The prior water restrictions issued was on a voluntary basis but this action is a mandatory water restriction. All customers must comply with this restriction.

In advance, we appreciate your cooperation and support during this critical time.

The Water Works and Sewer Board of the City of Selma will monitor customers’ outside water use.

The Water Works and Sewer Board of the City of Selma will take action against those customers who do not follow the guidelines listed above.

We regret having to restrict water use in this way, but the drought has become so severe it is necessary that we do so. Again, we ask for you full cooperation.

Thank you.

James Perkins Jr.
