A Selma man was arrested Monday and charged with assault for the shooting of another Selma man who remained hospitalized in critical condition.

Lamont Chapman, 20, remained in the Dallas County Jail on $60,000 bond, charged with shooting Kurt Marks, 22, in the early morning hours of Sunday.

According to police, the incident apparently stemmed from an altercation that began downtown and ended near the intersection of Plant Street and Etheridge Avenue.

Marks was struck by a single gunshot to the chest, and remains hospitalized, police said.

Police said two eyewitnesses saw Chapman get out of his vehicle and open fire, which led to his arrest.
