It’s that time of year again. It may not feel like fall in the air, but football season is upon us.

AISA schools played their first games this past week as Meadowview defeated Abbeville Christian.

Our two other AISA teams, Morgan and Central Christian, fell to Macon East and Coosa Valley, respectively.

This weekend begins play for Alabama High School Athletic Association teams.

In a much-anticipated contest, Maplesville plays the Hoover JV Thursday at home.

Selma and Southside bring a hometown rivalry to Memorial Stadium as they battle it out Friday night.

Keith will play at R.C. Hatch and Dallas County faces Chelsea in Shelby County.

The Morgan Senators’ first home game will be held Friday against Monroe Academy.

Meadowview is playing Kingwood at home and Central Christian will play at Warrior.

Many of us spend a lot of time – as well as money – to support Alabama or Auburn football.

Why not bring that level of enthusiasm to our hometown athletes?

These teams work hard during the offseason to prepare for the next 11 weeks.

The band, cheerleaders and others in the student body also put in a lot of hours to make the weekly football game an event to enjoy.

Whichever team you support, show your pride by attending at least some of the hometown games this season.
