Two juveniles and Selma man may have gotten more than they bargained for Saturday during an afternoon invasion of a Hampton Avenue home, where a 16-year-old female was home alone.

Police said she fought off her attackers with a machete, kicked, yelled and screamed at them.

Sherman Wilson, 20, remained jailed Saturday night on $20,000 bond, charged with burglary for allegedly kicking in the back door and gaining entry to the residence. The two juveniles were transported to the Hale County Juvenile Detention Center.

A police spokesperson said the girl was home alone at approximately 3 p.m., and was on the telephone when the juveniles and Wilson, who is 6-foot-6 inches tall, forced their way in. The victim reportedly defended herself using the machete to keep her attackers at bay and by screaming at them causing them to flee.

According to police reports, Wilson and the two juveniles rang the front door bell, then tried to gain entry by trying windows.

Police were called and given descriptions of her attackers. During the investigation witnesses told police they observed the suspects walking up and down Hampton Avenue prior to the incident.
