Robert “Bobby” Jacobs, who served in several capacities including interim Selma police chief, died Wednesday of an apparent suicide, authorities confirmed.
Jacobs, a longtime law enforcement officer, was employed as a child support investigator in the Fourth Judicial Circuit Child Support Collections for the past year.
District Attorney Michael Jackson said he was notified of the loss late Wednesday.
“He was a valued employee and he’s going to be missed,” Jackson said. “We’ll be praying for his family.”
Jacobs had also served as a fire investigator and as assistant chief in the Selma Police Department. Further details were unavailable.
