Evelyn Louise Hunter
Evelyn Louise Hunter, age 53, resident of Selma, Ala., died July 5, 2007 in Montgomery, Ala.
Services are scheduled for July 12, 2007 at 1:00 p.m. at Ebenezer Baptist Church officiated by the Rev. F.D. Reese. Burial will follow in the Fairlawn Cemetery directed by Walker Mortuary.
She was proceeded in death by her father Ananias Davis, Sr. and brother, Ananias Davis, Jr. Survivors include her mother Katie M. Davis; 1 son, Michael Terell Hunter; 4 daughters, Teresa Michelle Hunter, Talissa Shawnte Hunter, Tenika Lynette Hunter, and Takisha Roshawn Hunter; 5 brothers, MacArthur Davis, Lee Earnest Davis, Glenn Davis, Calvin Davis, and John Davis; 5 sisters, Barbara Williams, Katie Dockery, Henrietta Davis, Aretha Davis, and Renita Davis; 10 grandchildren; a host of brother and sister-in-laws, nephews, nieces, and other relatives.
Serving as active pallbearers will be family members.
Mary Moye Johnson
Mary Moye Johnson, 55, of Selma died on Saturday, July 7, 2007 at Vaughan Regional Hospital. She was preceded in death by her husband, Wayne Johnson; 1 brother, L.C. Moye & 1 sister, Emma Moye.
Survivors include: 4 daughters; Mechelle Bridges (Paul) of Catherine, Charlina Smith (Jerry),
Princess Moye, and Brandie Moye all of Selma,
2 sons; Rev. Trini L. Moye (Forrestine) and Brian Moye (Erica) all of Camden, Ala.; 13 grandchildren, 2 sisters (Estella Wilson of Coy, Ala., and Elvira Moye & 4 brothers; Eli Moye, Jr. (Barbara) all of Rockford, Ill., Frank Moye (Annie Bell) of Pensacola, Fla., Tom Moye of Coy, Ala., and Arthur (Millie) Moye of Salina, Kan.
Funeral services are Saturday, July 14, 2007 at 12 noon at the St. Emanuel #2 Baptist Church in Coy, Ala., with Rev. Sammy McDole, Sr. officiating. Services directed by the Thomasville Memorial Funeral Home of Thomasville, Ala.
Lenny Newberry
Lenny Newberry, age 47, resident of Jacksonville, Fla., formerly of Selma, Ala.,
died, Friday, July 6, 2007 at Shands Hospital in Jacksonville. Funeral services will be announced at a later time by Miller Funeral Service.
Ola Bell Lee
Ola Bell Lee, age 64, resident of Selma, Ala.,
died, Saturday, July 7, 2007 at Vaughan Regional Hospital. Funeral services will be announced at a later time by Miller Funeral Service.
Cynthia M. Coleman
Cynthia M. Coleman, age 43, resident of Marion Junction, Ala.,
died, Monday, July 9, 2007 at Vaughan Regional Hospital. Funeral services will be announced at a later time by Miller Funeral Service.
Kay Wood Haley
Kay Wood Haley, a member of St. Paul’s Episcopal Church, Daphne, died at Thomas Hospital on July 10, 2007 after a brief illness. She was 90 years old. Mrs. Haley moved to Fairhope in 1999.
Mrs. Haley was born on March 26, 1917 in Summer, Illinois, the daughter of Earl and Fannie Wood.
She was a 1935 graduate of Stephens College in Columbia, Mo., and a 1938 graduate of Eastman School of Music in Rochester, New York.
In a career spanning 70 years, Mrs. Haley was an organist, a choir director, and a piano, organ, and voice teacher. She taught organ and piano at Judson College in Marion, Ala. She served as organist at Old Post Chapel in Ft. Still, Okla. and at First Presbyterian, First Baptist Church, and St. Paul’s Episcopal Church in Selma, Ala.
Mrs. Haley founded the Selma Choral Society and frequently conducted the annual presentation of Handel’s Messiah in Selma. She sang in the Eastern Shore Chorus and St. Paul’s choir.
Mrs. Haley is survived by her children, Dr. John Patrick Haley III (Shirley) of Fairhope and Michael Wood Haley (Dana) of Gastonia, N.C. Surviving grandchildren are Karen Padilla of Chattanooga, Tenn., Chris Haley of Point Clear, Peter Haley of Gastonia. Surviving great-grandchildren are Haley and Kate Padilla of Chattanooga, Patrick Haley, Sam Haley, and Ramey Haley all of Point Clear. She is also survived by her brother James Robert Wood of Salem, Ill.
Mrs. Haley was preceded in death by her husband of 49 years, Dr. John Patrick Haley Jr. of Selma, Ala. Later she married Dr. Edwin Douglas Danfelt of Waynesboro, Penn., who died in 1991. She was also preceded in death by her sister Martelle Wood Nussbaumer of Ft. Collins, Colo.
A memorial service will be held at St. Paul’s Episcopal Church in Daphne, Ala., on Friday July 13, 2007 at 11:00 a.m. with visitation at the church at 10:00 a.m. A burial service will take place Saturday July 14, 2007 at 12:00 p.m. in New Live Oak Cemetery in Selma, with Rev. Joe Knight officiating and Lawrence Brown-Service Funeral Home directing.
