Hats off to Mike Reynolds, president and general manager of BroadSouth Communications, Inc., who was named the Broadcaster of the Year at the Alabama Broadcasters Association’s annual meeting.

Reynolds gave credit to the community and his hard-working staff.

Still, Reynolds received an outpouring of accolades from local residents and officials in support of his nomination.

“If there is such a thing as earning an award, Mike Reynolds most certainly earned this one,” Mayor James Perkins Jr. said. “Mike is a model citizen. He gives and keeps on giving.”

WDXX/WHBB Station Manager George Henry has worked with Reynolds since 1989.

“I’ll bet you could count on one hand the number of full-time employees who have come and gone since Mike purchased our stations,” Henry said. “For that many people to stay that long must say something pretty special about someone who rarely spends time bragging on himself.”

State Sen. Hank Sanders, D-Selma, also praised Reynolds.

“I appreciate the way you lift our community by reaching across dividing lines of race, gender, age and class,” Sanders wrote.

WDXX and WHBB, the stations owned by Broadsouth Communications, are truly community-minded.

Reynolds, too, is involved in the community and contributes in many ways to Selma.

Reynolds has held board of directors positions with the Chamber of Commerce, Selma Tourism Council, Mental Health Foundation and Selma Housing Authority along with numerous others.

He remains active in the Kiwanis Club of Selma where he has served twice as president and Battle of Selma Chairman.

We applaud Reynolds on receiving the Broadcaster of the Year award, and thank him for his community service.
