Emma Jackson

Ms. Emma Jackson, age 98, of Sardis, Ala., died June 7, 2007 at Vaughan Regional Hospital.

Funeral services are scheduled for Thursday, June 14, 2007 at 1 p.m. at New Shiloh Baptist Church of Sardis, Ala.

The visitation will be held at the church from noon – 1 p.m. Miller’s Funeral Home will be officiating.

Mrs. Jackson was 98 years young and was a member of Mt. Nebo Church of Sardis, Ala., where she served as an usher until age 94.

She was a farmer, civil rights foot solider, and in later years, worked as a cook at Shiloh School of Sardis, Ala.

She was the mother of 12 children of whom eight preceded her in death.

She leaves to mourn four children and a host of relatives and friends.

Mrs. Jackson possessed a warm and giving spirit and a double portion of common sense.

She had an uncanny knack of being able to find humor and see the hand of God in the midst of difficult circumstances.

Over the years, many were fed at her table or had the opportunity to savor her signature pound cake as she imparted wisdom gained through her fellowship with God.

Most of all, Mrs. Jackson loved people.

She greeted everyone that she met with a big smile or a hearty chuckle.

Her love for the brethren will sorely be missed in the body of Christ.

Elder Robert Lee

Elder Robert Lee, age 94, of Lighthouse Nursing Home, died June 6, 2007 at Vaughan Regional Medical Center.

Funeral services will be held Thursday, June 14, 2007 at 1:30 p.m. at the Peterson Chapel Holiness Church with Elder Allen Barnett officiating. Burial will be in Zion #1 M.P. Church cemetery. Lewis Brothers Funeral Home, Inc., directing.

He was preceded in death by his wife; parents, Minister Willie Lee Sr., and Katie Lee; brothers, Morris Lee, Eddie Lee, Willie Lee Jr., and Malachi Lee; and sisters Rebecca Henderson, Elizabeth King and Katie Hollman.

Survivors include his sister-in-law, Leola Lee; nieces, Rosie L. Hollman and Katie (Arthur) Bell; and nephews, Frank Hollman, Robert Hollman, and Walker (Ruth) Hollman, all of Selma.

Dollie Burnett Lowery

Dollie Burnett Lowery, age 80, of Selma died Monday June 11, 2007 at UAB Hospital after a short illness.

Funeral services will be held Thursday June 14, 2007 at Sister Springs Baptist Church in Tyler, Alabama with Rev. Robert Bayne officiating and Lawrence Brown-Service Funeral Home directing.

Burial will follow in the church cemetery.

Mrs. Lowery is survived by her husband, Mr. J.C. Lowery of Tyler, her children, Gloria (Danny) Dennington, Diane (Otey) Crisman, Bobby Burnett, Kenneth (Jeanie) Burnett, Nelda (Butch) Curtis, Darlene Nevin, Johnnie Reed, and Chester (Mal) Lowery.

She is also survived by her grandchildren, Edward Dennington, Douglas Dennington, Mark Dennington, Brian (Sonya) Crisman, Tyson (Lacey) Crisman, Chad (Ashley) Burnett, Christy (Scott) Pope, Clarice (Darrell) Cardwell, Timothy Burnett, Daniela (Daniel) Moore, Cody Carter, Sheri (Geromy) Luster, Richard (Jenny) Carter, Shawn (Jennifer) Curtis, Donnie (Pam) Nevin, Stevie (Christy) Reed, Stephanie Chance, Elizabeth Lowery, Joseph Lowery, and Nicky Lowery, brothers, Otest Collier, Dwight Collier, sisters-in-law, Elsie Collier, Sybil Burnett, Merle Burnett, 30 great- grandchildren,

numerous cousins, nieces, nephews, and dear friends.

Mrs. Lowery was longtime servant of Sister Springs Baptist Church in Tyler, Alabama.

She taught Sunday school, VBS, she was the secretary of her Sunday school class and she loved the congregation dearly.

Pallbearers will be grandsons and grandsons-in-law.

Honorary pallbearers will be deacons of Sister Spring Baptist Church.

Family will receive friends on Wednesday June 13, 2007 from 6 – 8 p.m. at the funeral home and Thursday from 2 – 3 p.m. at the church.
