Mary Joy Townsend Hester

Mary Joy Townsend Hester, 72, of Montgomery died on May 26, 2007, at her home after a lengthy illness.

She was born in Birmingham in 1934, the daughter of Mack and Bess Townsend.

She is survived by her husband of 50 years, Marvin Hester Jr.; two daughters, Heidi Hester Lee (Robert) of Montgomery and Heather Hester Sasser (Steve) of Decatur; six grandchildren, Caroline Lee, Gibbs Lee, Williams Sasser, Matthew Sasser, Andrew Sasser and Phillip Sasser.

She is also survived by her three brothers, Mack Townsend, Don Townsend and Jack Townsend; and one sister, Vicki Holcomb, all of Birmingham.

She was well named, a Joy to all.

The family will receive friends Monday evening from 6 to 8 p.m. at the home of Robert and Heidi Lee.

A memorial service will be held at Young Meadows Presbyterian Church, 5780 Vaughn Road, on Tuesday, May 29, 2007, at 11 a.m. with Dr. Jim Simoneau and Dr. Dana Waters officiating.

In lieu of flowers, the family has requested that memorials be made to Young Meadows Presbyterian Church Building Fund or the Cancer Wellness Foundation.

Joseph Whitehall

Mr. Joseph Whitehall, age 83, of Selma, died May 27, 2007 at Warren Manor Nursing Home.

Funeral services will be announced at a later date by Miller Funeral Service.

William E. Smiley

Mr. William E. Smiley, age 57, of Selma, died May 24, 2007 at Vaughan Regional Hospital.

Funeral services will be announced at a later date by Miller Funeral Service.

Gladys

Myrlene Harris

Gladys Myrlene Harris, age 87, passed away Sunday, May 27, 2007 in a local hospital.

Surviving is her daughter, Paula (Perry) Owings; sons, Grant (Anita) Harris, and Russell (Sue Ann) Harris; and sister, Faye Honeycutt.

Mrs. Harris, was preceded in death by her husband, Kermit Curtis Harris.

Visitation will be held Tuesday, May 29, 2007, from 6 to 8 p.m.

Funeral services will be conducted in the chapel of Selma Funeral Home at 10 a.m. Wednesday, May 30, with Dr. Kenny Hatcher officiating. Music will be provided by Dr. Kenny Hatcher and Melissa Thompson.

Serving as pianist will be Janet Carter.

Interment will follow in the Ebenezer Cemetery in Stanton.

Serving as pallbearers will be Devin Prince, Mark Young, Jamey Hornsby, Mitchell Harris, Russell Harris, Jr., and Jay “Packy” Dempsey.

Honorary pallbearer will be Landon Carter.

Mrs. Harris was a longtime member of Ebenezer Baptist Church in Stanton.
