People not measured by background

To the Editor:

Will someone please tell the Happy Nappy that the reason some persons of her racial background are seen as uneducated is because they do not know how to use the English language … refer to her piece in today’s paper (April 24, 2007) as a prime example!

When will people realize they are measured not by their background but by their daily “face” … and by this, I mean the face they put on their interpersonal relationships … whether it is spoken, or written, it makes no difference!

Except that as written communication it is even more blatantly obvious that the writer is not well versed in the language. That may be why the well-known “Spell-Check”(c) was originated … to afford persons with less than a well-rounded schooling a chance to write without seeming illiterate …?

Ms. Happy Nappy would do well to avail herself of the advances of this electronic gift!

This is not to say she does not have a point!

She is certainly within her rights to feel as she does.

But she should try to express herself better as an example to her neighbors … that no matter where you come from … you can go far!

Sincerely,

Althea Morgan
