Robert ‘Bobby’ N. Cross Sr.

Robert “Bobby” N. Cross Sr. died Monday, April 16, 2007 at Vaughan Regional Medical Center, Selma, after a lengthy illness.

His family will receive friends from 12:30 to 1:45 p.m. Wednesday, April 18, at Queen of Peace Catholic Church.

Funeral services will follow at 2 p.m. with Father Carroll Plourde and the Rev. George Sedberry officiating. Burial will be in old Live Oak Cemetery, Lawrence Funeral Home directing.

Born April 21, 1935, Mr. Cross was a lifetime resident of Selma, where he was widely known for his dedication to the Scouting program.

He served as Scoutmaster of the Boy Scouts of America Troop 26 (Church Street United Methodist Church) from 1964 to 1980.

His leadership included frequent and extensive camping trips, offering the Scouts an outdoor experience and teaching them the importance of conservation and preservation to the environment.

His devotion to Scouting continued throughout his life, which he dedicated to the preservation of nature, wildlife and domestic animals.

He also maintained active memberships in a number of environmental organizations.

Mr. Cross is survived by his wife, Andrea Knowles Cross of Selma and their son, Robert N. Cross Jr. and grandson, Robert “Trey” N. Cross III of Monroeville.

He is also survived by his sister Betty Cross Allen and her husband Joe E. Allen of Hartselle (formerly of Selma); two nieces, Dana Allen Haley and her husband Michael W. Haley of Gastonia, N.C., and

Kim Allen Gully and her husband Sam Gully, Hartselle.

Other survivors include five great nephews:

Peter and John Haley of Gastonia, and Clark, Clay and Conner Gully of Hartselle.

He is also survived by his devoted companion Hardy Green of Selma.

Mr. Cross was preceded in death by his parents John and Lorraine Spencer Cross.

Pallbearers will be Benjamin F. Beers Jr., C. Byrd Looper, E. Earl Hermann Jr. , Richard Gibian Sr. and Charles Pollack, all of Selma; Lee Rowan of Seagrove Beach, Florida, Pat McKean of Mobile and Adam Papuga, Evergreen, Colorado.

Honorary pallbearers are members of Bobby Cross’ Sunday School Class Pairs and Spares of Church Street United Methodist Church, E. Martin Hedgepeth of Pittsboro, N.C. and Jim Hardy of Orange Beach.

Memorial gifts may be made to Queen of Peace Church, Pairs and Spares Sunday School Class, The American Cancer Society or a charity of choice.

The family wishes to express appreciation for the dedicated and compassionate care from the staffs of the Radiology Department and the Third Floor of the Vaughan Regional Medical Center, the Selma Branch of Montgomery Cancer Clinic and Asera Care Hospice.

Mr. Walter Drury ‘Buddy’ Caine, Sr.

Mr. Walter Drury (Buddy) Caine, Sr., a native of Dallas County, Alabama, born on October 20, 1921, a former resident of Selma and a lifetime resident of Mobile died peacefully in his sleep on Saturday, April 7, 2007 at his residence.

He was a career milk Distributor for Barber’s Milk Company in Selma, an active member of the Selma Jaycees and was a member of the First Baptist Church of Selma.

He was preceded in death by his two daughters, Kitty Lee Caine and Alice Caine Sealey.

Mr. Caine is survived by his wife, Kitty Clark Caine of Alabaster, Ala.; his children, Walter Drury (Yvonne) Caine, Jr. of Mobile, Ala., Tereesa Caine Sparks of Auburn, Ala., Anne Carson Caine (Scott) Cutler of Ogden, UT, Rosemary Caine (Eric) Aycock of Dana Point, Calif., and Priscilla Caine (Charles) Haggard of Alabaster, Ala.; nieces, nephews and other relatives and friends.

Pallbearers were Larry Heman Hill, Alva Caine Hill, Walter Ronald Hill, Jared Brett Caine, Charles Edward Haggard, and John Eric Overstreet.

Graveside funeral services and interment were held on Thursday, April 12, 2007 at 2

p.m. at New Live Oak Cemetery in Selma, Ala.

The family received friends on Wednesday, April 11, 2007 from 5 until 8 p.m. at Pine Crest Funeral Home in Mobile, Ala.

Funeral arrangements were by Pine Crest Funeral Home of Mobile, Ala.

Graveside service arrangements were by Lawrence Funeral home of Selma, Ala.

Patricia A. Lewis-Allen and Ronald James Allen

Husband and wife, Patricia A. Lewis-Allen and Ronald James Allen, daughter and son-in-law to late Clinton and Emma Lewis, passed away April 14, 2007 in Bessemer, Ala.

Patricia formerly of Selma, AL and a former member of Shiloh Baptist Church-Potter Station, leaves to cherish her memories: a daughter, Lakeshia Lewis; two sons, Earl Williams, Jr. and James Allen, Jr. Seven grandchildren, one sister, five brothers. Two brothers proceeded her in death. Three sister-in-law, five aunts, three uncles, and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and other relative and friends.

Funeral services will be held on April 21, 2007 at 12 p.m. at Bethlehem Baptist Church in Birmingham, Ala., with Rev. Walker officiating.

Harlan Dean Trotter

Harlan Dean Trotter, 51, of Plantersville, passed away Friday, April 13, 2007 in a Selma hospital.

A memorial service will be held on Sunday, April 22, 2007 at 2 p.m. at Plantersville Baptist Church.

Honeycutt English

Honeycutt English, 87, formerly of Selma, passed April 14, 2007 at the Tuskegee VA Hospital.

Final arrangements will be announced later by J.H. Williams & Sons Funeral Home.
