Frances Howell Garland, 87, of Valdosta died Friday, April 13, 2007 at the Presbyterian Home in Quitman.

She was born in 1919 in Valdosta to the late Wesley Carlos and Susan Frances Coppage Howell and had lived in Selma, Ala. before returning to Valdosta.

Mrs. Garland attended the St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church and was a member of the Valdosta Country Club.

She enjoyed playing bridge and very involved with the care of animals.

Survivors include her husband, Edgar L. Garland of Valdosta, two daughters and sons in law, Courtney and Larry Mealor of Adairsville, Lynn and Harvey Burch of Orlando, Fla., three sons and two daughters in law, Frank and Chris Garland of Orlando, Fla., Robbie and Noreen Garland of Denver, Co. and Tim Garland of Valdosta, her grandchildren, Todd, Janet, Rebecca, Adam and Erika, three great grandchildren, Alexandra, Jack and Landon and one sister, Julia Mae Warm of Florida.

Funeral services will be held at 12:10 p.m. Wednesday, April 18, 2007 at St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church with Father John O’Brien officiating.

Burial will follow in the Sunset Hill Cemetery.

A rosary will be held at 7 p.m., Tuesday, April 17, 2007 at the church with visitation to follow.

Robert M. ‘Bobby’ McLaughlin, Jr.

Robert M. “Bobby” McLaughlin, Jr. of Prattville, AL and formerly of Selma, Ala., passed away April 15, 2007.

He was preceded in death by his father, Robert M. McLaughlin, Sr. and a son, Eric Allen McLaughlin.

Surviving are his wife, Collette S. McLaughlin; daughter, Elizabeth Anne McLaughlin; mother, Louise Smitherman McLaughlin; brother, Scott R. McLaughlin; father-in-law, Coleman Smith; brothers-in law, Chris (Deb) Smith and Ed (Janet) Smith; sister-in-law, Joy S. Posey and a host of nieces, nephews and great nieces and nephews.

The family will receive friends at Selma Funeral Home on Tuesday, April 17, 2007 at 1:00 p.m.

Graveside service will follow in Pineview Memory Gardens at 2:00 p.m. with Rev. Joe Wyatt officiating.

Pallbearers will be Chris Smith, Ed Smith, Mark Bloss, Josh Smith, Brian McLaughlin, Kenneth R. Hull, Jr., Kenneth R. Hull, Sr. and Christopher Hull.

Robert “Bobby” N. Cross, Sr. died Monday April 16, 2007 at the Vaughan Regional Medical Center in Selma.

Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. Wednesday April 18, 2007 at Queen of Peace Catholic Church.
