Help stop child abuse

More than 10,000 children in Alabama were reported to have had an indication of abuse and neglect in 2005, according to the 2006 Alabama Kids Count Data Book.

In addition, the Alabama Network of Children’s Advocacy Centers’ Board of Directors reported 9,188 services were provided to thousands of children by way of CACs last year.

Those numbers should be intolerable to those of us who consider this a civilized society.

No child should have to suffer from abuse or neglect, but we know that it does happen.

April is National Child Abuse Prevention Month, and the Central Alabama Child Advocacy Center plans to spend the 30-day observance educating the public.

The Central Alabama CAC, with a location on Bell Road, provides a safe haven for child abuse victims.

There is no reason for another child to suffer.

There are programs available that:

Teach parenting skills,

Help residents deal with stress

Provide resources for children who are victims.

Help is available. Don’t let your child, or a child you love become one of those 10,000 who will be abused or neglected this year.
