Mr. Isaac E. Canty

Mr. Isaac E. Canty, age 50, of Selma, Alabama died on February 23, 2007 at his residence.

Funeral services will be held on Saturday, March 3, 2007 at 1:00 p.m. at Calvary Missionary Baptist Church with Rev. Eric Walker officiating. Burial will follow in Pineview Memory Gardens with Miller Funeral Service directing.

Survivors include: spouse, Lucile Tyus Canty; mother, Marguerite Canty; two brothers, Charles Fredrick (Ann) Canty and Ronald Allen Canty of Queens, NY; three sisters, Frances Canty (Louis) Weaver, Marilyn Faye Canty of Selma, AL, and Rose Marie Canty (Eddie) Burke of Queens, NY; two brothers-in-laws, three sisters-in-laws, nine nieces, thirteen nephews, and numerous cousins and friends; one uncle, William Gardner of Cincinnati. Ohio.

Pallbearers will be Daniel Bennett, Charles Canty, Gregory Harris, Sr., James Jones, Joseph Mills, Willie Phillips and Arthur Ross.

James Arthur

Goodwin Jr.

James Arthur Goodwin, Jr., age 52, of Selma died Monday, February 12, 2007 at UAB Hospital.

He was born August 24, 1954 in Selma, the son of James F. and Bernetta J. (Cooper) Goodwin. He was employed by Crown Laundry. He was a devoted father and brother.

Survivors include: four sons, James D. Goodwin, Kenji R. Goodwin, Calvin Wofford and Dexter D. Goodwin; one daughter, Tonya Wofford; his mother, Bernetta J. Goodwin; four sisters, Lillie Ezell, Diane Taylor, Melenee West and Bernetta Barnes; five brothers, Anthony Goodwin, Stephen Goodwin, Brian Goodwin, Eric Goodwin and James Turner; his fianc, Rosa Harvell; and host of aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, and cousins.

He was preceded in death by his father, James A. Goodwin, Sr.; brother-in-law, Ellis Crockett; and nephew, Kenneth Williams.

Services were held at 11AM, Tuesday, February 20, 2007 at Peoples Baptist Church, Ashtabula, Ohio with Reverend Louis Grandberry, Pastor, officiating. Burial followed in Edgewood Cemetery.

Ellen Ruth Harris

Ellen Ruth Harris, age 76, a resident of Lowndes County, died February 22, 2007.

Funeral Services will be held March 3, 2007 at noon at the Antioch Methodist Church with Pastor Hebert Dixon officiating. Burial in

Roper Cemetery with Bell Funeral Home directing.

Mary Lee Harris

Mrs. Mary Lee Harris, age 87 of Safford, died February 24, 2007 at her home.

Funeral services are scheduled for Saturday, March 3, 2007 at noon at Christian Light Baptist Church, Safford, with C.L. Franklin officiating. Burial will be in Christian Light Baptist Church, Safford. Directed by Miller Funeral Service.

Survivors include her husband, Madison W. Harris Sr.; son, Madison Harris Jr.; eight daughters, Katherline Craig, Roberta Coleman, Sarah Young, Mary Franklin, Susie Maxwell, Marion Mack, Belinda Harris and Carolyn Goode; 29 grandchildren; 46 great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren; seven son-in-laws; one daughter-in-law; one brother-in-law; a devoted nephew, Andre Williams and a devoted cousin, Eugene Martin.

Pallbearers will be grandsons.

Roy Lee Rivers Sr.

Mr. Roy Lee Rivers Sr., age 64 of Selma, died February 21, 2007 at Baptist South Hospital in Montgomery.

Funeral services are scheduled for Friday, March 2, 2007 at 1 p.m. New Cedar Grove Church with Rev. Dan Moore officiating. Burial will be in Fairlawn Memory Garden. Directed by Miller Funeral Service.

Survivors include two sons, Roy Rivers Jr. and Carl Rivers; two daughters, Cherry (Gregory) Dukes and Debra (John) Grayson; two brothers, Marlon (Calarai) Ross Sr. and Michael Mack; five sisters, Pauline (Alfred) Davis, Elizabeth (J.C.) Davis, Leola (Henry) Snow, Viola Dudley and Ada (Arthur) Moore; eight grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; a host of nieces and nephews; and a devoted and special friend, Paralee Key.

Genevive Taylor

Genevive Taylor, age 59 a native of Lowndes County, expired February 25, 2007.

Funeral Services will be held Saturday, March 3, 2007 at 12:00 p.m. at the Bell Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. John Taylor Officiating. The body will lie in state from 11:00 p.m. until Noon. Interment will be held in Cook Cemetery with Bell Funeral Home directing.

James W Pickering Sr.

Graveside services for James W Pickering, Sr. which were cancelled due to weather on Thursday will be held at Plantersville Christian Cemetery at 11:00 A.M. Friday March 2, 2007.

Fannie Mae Coleman

Fannie Mae Coleman, age 58 of Alberta, Ala., died February 24, 2007 at Vaughan Regional Hospital.

Funeral services are scheduled for March 3, 2007 at 1 p.m. at Pine Grove Baptist with Dwight Woods officiating. Burial will be at Oak Grove Baptist. Directed by Miller Funeral Service.

Survivors include four sons, Johnny James, Benjamin Settzer Jr., Arthur Lee Coleman Jr., and Daniel Lee Coleman; three daughters, Mary Ann Hall, Angela Renee Coleman and Annie Mae Coleman; five brothers, Robert, Claude, Learnest, James and Daniel; five sisters, Olivia, Helen, Lola, Pinkie and Corine; 15 grandchildren; three son-in-laws; three daughter-in-laws; eight brothers-in-law; seven sisters-in-law; 20 nieces and 25 nephews.

Hazel H. Barge

A Service Celebrating the life of Mrs. Hazel H. Barge of Duluth, was held on Wednesday, February 21, 2007 at 11:00 AM at Saint Phillip AME Church, 240 Candle Road, SE. The Reverend George Moore, Senior Pastor, officiating.

Her remains laid in state one hour before the service. Interment, Hillandale

Memorial Gardens, Lithonia. The Cortege assembled at the residence at 9:00 AM.

She leaves to celebrate her memory, 2 sons, Billy H. Barge, Jr., Washington, GA and Marvin H. Barge and wife, Charlotte, Duluth; grandchildren, Billy III, Marvin, Jr., and Alexis; siblings, Lonnie R. Cooper (John), Martietta, GA; Farrie Edwards, Stockton, CA; Lula Stoudmire, Haywood, CA; Mary Helen Welch, Cincinnati, OH; a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, grandnieces, grandnephews, godchildren, Delphine (Brian) Gourdine and friends.

Jeffery Cook

Jeffery Cook, age 23, a native of Lowndes County passed away.

in Cook Cemetery with Bell Funeral Home directing.

Mary F. Williams

Mrs. Mary F. Williams, age 86 of the Lock 5 Community, Greensboro, passed away February 27, 2007 at Bryan Whitfield Hospital, Demopolis.

Funeral services will be held Saturday, March 3, 2007 at 2 p.m. at the Oak Grove Baptist Church, Gallion. Rev. Donald White will officiate. Interment will follow in Mickens Cemetery, Greensboro. The remains will repose at the church on Saturday beginning at 1 p.m.

Jacquelyn D. Stancil

Jacquelyn D. Stancil, age 66 of Valley Grande, passed away on Thursday at UAB Medical Center in Birmingham.

Jacky, a devoted wife, mother and grandmother, was a social worker for over 40 years. She retired from the Alabama Department of Human Resources, and later began a new career as Executive Director of Montgomery AIDS Outreach. She has touched the lives of thousands of people during her career and has made the world a better place.

She attended Judson College and was a graduate of Jacksonville State University.

Funeral services will be Saturday March 3, 2007 at 11:30 a.m. in the New Horizon Memorial Chapel with Mr. David Phillips officiating. Entombment will follow in the New Horizon Memorial Gardens Mausoleum.

Visitation is Saturday from 10:30 -11:30 a.m. at the funeral home.

She was preceded in death by her father, Walter Edgar Deneke.

Survivors include her husband, Garnett Stancil of Valley Grande; son, Garnett Stancil III and wife Lee of Warrior; daughter, Elizabeth Lerro and husband Phil of Annville, PA; grandchildren, Adam and Nathan Lerro, and Weldon and Isabella Stancil; mother and daddy, Betty Lee and Tony Sazera of Tarrant; brothers, Walter Deneke and Anthony Sazera; sister, Mary Hughes; several nieces, nephews and a host of friends. In lieu of flowers, a donation to Montgomery AIDS Outreach or other charitable organizations would be appreciated.

Faye Pierce, of Prattville and formerly of Selma passed away March 1, 2007 in a Montgomery Nursing Facility. Graveside services will be Saturday, March 3, 2007 at 11:00 a.m. in Pineview Memory Gardens with Selma Funeral Home directing. Visitation will be prior to the service at 10:00 a.m.

A memorial service will be held in Montgomery Saturday afternoon.
