Eleanor Inez Ernest Cooper

Eleanor Inez Ernest Cooper, age 89, of Thomaston, AL died in a Birmingham hospital February 11, 2007.

Funeral services were held on February 14, 2007 at 11:00 a.m. at Thomaston Baptist Church conducted by Rev. Randall Mims and a Psalm reading by her granddaughter, Kellye Wilson Kerr. Burial was in Friendship Baptist Church Cemetery in Vineland, AL directed by O’Bryant Chapel Funeral Home of Linden, AL.

Mrs. Cooper was preceded in death by her husband, Grady Copper and her daughter, Shirley Cooper; three brothers and one sister.

She is survived by one son, Rex Cooper, Sr. (Linda) of Marbury and one daughter, Beverly Cooper Wilson (Joe) of Moody; three granddaughters, Dawn Cooper, Tamira Cooper and Kellye Wilson Kerr (Danny); two grandsons, Rex Cooper, Jr. and Jonathan Wilson (Christi); on great granddaughter, Shelby Cooper and one great grandson, Justin Wilson; one sister, Earline Ernest Copeland of Selma; two brothers, Ruben Smyly (Beulah) of Thomasville and Payton Smyly (Betty Ann) of Linden; and several nieces and nephews.

Pallbearers were her grandsons and nephews.

Lemon Aubrey “Ham” Lowrey

Lemon Aubrey “Ham” Lowrey, age 83, of Selma died Thursday February 22, 2007 in a local hospital.

Graveside services was held at 11:00 Saturday February 24, 2007 at New Live Oak Cemetery officiated by Rev. Jack Lovelace and directed by Lawrence Brown-Service Funeral Home.

Mr. Lowrey is survived by his wife, Novie Lowrey of Selma, children, Debbie (Wayne) Middlebrooks of Selma, Richard (Carmelita) Watkins of Selma, son-in-law, “Scooter” Haugen of Selma, grandchildren, Eric (Amy) Haugen, Amy Haugen (Jimmy) Stucky, and Kerri (Chet) Chappelle, Sam Watkins, and Pamela Watkins, 5 great grandchildren, and numerous nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his daughter, Mary Alice Haugen and grandson, Drew Haugen.

The family received friends from 6:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. Friday February 23, 2007 at Lawrence Funeral Home.

In lieu of flowers the family suggests donations to one’s favorite charity.

Leatha

E. Locke, age 79, died Wednesday, February 21, 2007.

Funeral services will be held 2:00 p.m. Monday, February 26, 2007 at Lawrence Brown-Service Funeral Home with Dr. Kenny Hatcher officiating. Burial will follow at Pineview Memory Gardens.

Mrs. Locke is survived by her son, Danny Lane Locke of Strong, ME, grandchildren, Hunter Locke of St. Marys, GA, Shana Locke of Birmingham, Wendy Coleman, and Phillip Locke both of Columbus, MS. She is also survived by her great-grandchildren, Cody Locke and Randi Locke of Tampa, FL, Chase Henderson, Riley Copeland, Mercede Locke of all Columbus, MS, Marte Locke, and Thomas Locke both of St. Marys, GA, and numerous nieces and nephews including, Cynthia Martin of Gordon, GA.

Mrs. Locke was preceded in death by her husband H. F. Locke, son, Hugh Locke, and grandson, Randy Locke.

Born in Baxley, GA, she made her home in Selma for many years; and for the last three years she lived in Maine with her son. She is the last remaining member of her family. She was a longtime member of Northside Baptist Church and a pink lady at the Medical Center.

Pallbearers will be Deacons of Northside Baptist Church.

In lieu of flowers the family suggests memorial donations to Northside Baptist Church.

Wentford O. Smith

Wentford O. Smith, age 74, died Saturday, February 24, 2007 at his home.

Services will be held 11:00 a.m. Monday, February 26, 2007 at Lawrence Brown-Service Funeral Home with Rev. Rod Rodchester officiating and Lawrence Brown-Service Funeral Home directing with burial following at New Live Oak Cemetery.

Mr. Smith is survived by his wife Laverne Ferguson Smith, his daughter Darlene Marie Burton, his brothers J.R. Smith and Carlos Smith, his sisters Mary Lee Gaylor and Paulene Martin. He is also survived by his 7 grandchildren Sherri Campbell, Kathy Daughtry, Shelly Breed, Terri Hegwood, Tony Hill, Casey Burton, Shannon Burton and also his 8 great-grandchildren.

Mr. Smith was preceded in death by his mother Nora Smith, his father William I. Smith, a son Julis Wayne Riddle, a daughter Linda Gail Willis, two brothers Red Smith and John Smith, and a sister Earlene Riddle.

Pallbearers will be Coty Vines, Johnny Chatman, Earl Burton, Kevin Smith and Alvis Burton.

Visitation will be Sunday February 25, 2007 from 6:00 p.m.to 8:00 p.m. at the funeral home.

Irene Player

Irene Player age 86, passed away Friday, February 23, 2007 in a local nursing home.

She is survived by her nephew Gerald Player of Tullahoma, TN, nieces Delores Atkinson (Mike) of Hampton, VA, Kathy Harvell (Don) of Valley Grande, Jennifer Chandler of Valley Grande, Cindy Russell (Rick) of Opelika, AL, sister-in-law, Hilda Player of Valley Grande, six great nephews and seven great nieces.

Miss Player is preceded in death by her mother, Dorcas Player, brothers, E.R. “Smokey” Player and Nathan Player.

The family will receive friends Sunday 6:00 to 8:00 P.M. at Selma Funeral Home.
