Community says good-bye to longtime YMCA leader

The community came out to the YMCA of Selma-Dallas County Thursday night to say good-bye to director Angie Miller.

Miller starts a new job as executive director of the Hampton, Va., YMCA on March 12.

During her tenure as director, the YMCA’s board of directors and staff took what Miller called a &8220;leap of faith&8221; and started construction on the 43,000-square-foot building that the Y currently occupies.

At the opening of the facility last summer, Miller said her goal was that the organization would be &8220;a leading entity in bringing our community together and moving it forward.&8221;

During the farewell reception Thursday, board chairman Randall Miller commended Miller on the job she has done.

The YMCA has named Kim Hutchison of the Birmingham YMCA as interim director in Selma.
