Homer Lee Holland

Homer Lee Holland, 81, a Master Jeweler and Church of Christ minister died Tuesday, February 20, 2007, at his home in Selma, Alabama.

His death followed a long illness.

Mr. Holland was born in Swenson, Texas on July 19, 1925.

In his youth, he was a jeweler apprentice and worked with Native American jewelers in Texas, New Mexico and Arizona.

He later volunteered to serve his country during World War II, was an Army Air Corps flight instructor, and was finally based at Craig Army Air Field in Selma.

After the war he and his extended family relocated to Selma from Texas and he re-entered the jewelry business (with George and Mary Julia Bewig) at Bewig Jewelry.

He and his wife, Doris, opened Holland Jewelers on Broad Street in 1962.

A Master Jeweler, Graduate Gemologist of the Gemological Institute of America, a Certified Gemologist Appraiser with the America Gem Society and a Certified Master Watchmaker with the Horological Institute of America, Mr. Holland taught thousands of students from around the world at his Holland School for Jewelers for over thirty-nine years and was also the co-owner with his wife, Doris Holland, of Holland Jewelers.

He was also a frequent featured speaker at jewelry association conventions across the country.

Mr. Holland was a minister at the Summerfield Road Church of Christ.

His parents were Edward Lee Holland and Alice Eula Brown Holland.

His survivors include his wife, to whom he was married for 63 years, Doris Jean Shero Holland; sons: Michael Lynn Holland (Carol) of Plano, Texas; David Lee Holland (John Kyriazis) of New York City; Robert Mark Holland (Bill Lockhart) of Birmingham, Alabama; daughter-in-law: Rebecca Jones Holland (Richard “Ricky” Alan Holland, deceased) of Selma; grandchildren: Michael Shero Holland (Tyna Chu) of Tempe, Arizona; Melissa Cher Holland Roach (Sean) of Savannah, Texas; great grandchild: Ethan Michael Roach; sisters: Thelma Louise Holland Fair (Frank) of Florence, Alabama;

Alta Jerrine Holland Crawford (Bobby) of Selma; Judy Francine Holland Bagby (David) of Selma; and sister-in-law: Fran Shero Davis (Don) of Selma; as well as numerous nephews and nieces.

Visitation will be on Thursday, February 22, 2007, from 6:00 to 8:00 P.M. at Lawrence Brown – Service Funeral Home in Selma, AL followed on Friday, February 23, 2007, by an 11:00 A.M. funeral service at the funeral home with Church of Christ Ministers, Dana Chandler and Gary Williams officiating. Burial will follow at New Live Oak Cemetery.

Pallbearers will be Chad Bagby, Chuck Bagby, David Bagby, Craig Boone, Joshua Collins and Steve Tidwell.

Honorary pallbearers will be Don Bailey, Blanch Brantley, Hunter Bulgel, Frank Calloway, Jeremiah Conn, Dr. Clyde Cox, Bobby Crawford, Jeff Crawford, Tim Crawford, Don Davis, Dr. Sam Evans, Bill Fair, Frank Fair, Ronnie Holladay, Frank Jones, Cecil Lane, Kenneth McMinn, Dr. Don Overstreet, Dan Treadwell and Kevin Woods.

Flora Adams

Flora Adams, age 86, of Holt, AL died on February 20, 2007 at DCH Hospital. Graveside services will be held on Friday, February 23, 2007 at 10:30 at Tuscaloosa Memorial Park with Bro. William Holley and Bro. George Fields officiating and Tuscaloosa Memorial Chapel directing. Visitation will be Thursday from 6-8 pm at Tuscaloosa Memorial Chapel.

Survivors include: one son, John Adams (Carolyn); six grandchildren, Mechell Faulker, Angie Jackson, Leslie Hill, Danny Adams, Chris Adams, Susan Hatfield Adams;

six great grandchildren and a host of nieces and nephews.

She was a wonderful mother, grandmother and great grandmother. She will be missed by all. She loved her animals like people.

Isabelle Harris

Isabelle Harris, age 72, a native of Burkville, AL, expired February 18, 2007. Funeral services will be held Saturday, February 24, 2007, 12:00 noon at the Rock Creek Missionary Baptist Church with Rev. Mack Jenkins officiating. The body will lie in state from 11:00 a.m. until 12:00 noon. Interment will be held in Rock Creek Churchyard Cemetery with Bell Funeral Home directing.

Carrie Lee James

Carrie Lee James, age 85, a resident of Hayneville, Alabama died February 20, 2007. Funeral services will be held Saturday, February 24, 2007 at 12:00 noon at Friendship Baptist Church with Rev. Otis Smith officiating. Burial in Hayneville Cemetery with Bell Funeral Home directing.

Henry Johnson Jr. ‘Highwater’

Henry Johnson, Jr. “Highwater,” age 68, of Selma, AL died on February 19, 2007. Funeral services will be held on Saturday, February 24, 2007 at 1:00 p.m. at New Mt. Moriah Baptist Church in Tyler, AL with Pastor Timothy J. Woods of Hopewell Missionary Baptist Church, Birmingham, AL officiating. Burial will follow in New Mt. Moriah churchyard cemetery with Eastside Funeral Home of Birmingham, AL directing.

Survivors include: daughters, Johnnie Moorer, Diane Harrison (Robert), Sadie Johnson (Tyrone), Dorothy Johnson, Gussie Johnson, and Lena Mae Johnson; sons, Willie J. Harris, Willie Johnson, Jr., Earnest Hardy and Darryl Johnson; brother, Willie Olds; thirty-five grandchildren; and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

Visitation will be held on Thursday from 12 to 5:00 p.m. at Eastside Funeral Home and Friday at Miller Funeral Home in Selma, AL.

Mr. Roy Rives

Mr. Roy Rives, of Dallas County, died on February 21, 2007 at Baptist South, Montgomery. Funeral services will be announced at a later date by Miller Funeral Service.

Lorenzo Robinson

Lorenzo Robinson, age 70, a resident of Mosses, Alabama died February 14, 2007. Funeral services will be held Saturday, February 24, 2007 at 12:00 noon at the Bougahoma Baptist Church with Rev. Earnest Green officiating. Burial in Churchyard Cemetery with Bell Funeral Home directing.
