Staff Report

The funeral service for Meadowview Christian School student Jessica Lolley, 17, is set for 11 a.m. today at Westwood Church of God.

Lolley, a Meadowview senior, was killed when her car struck a tree on Alabama Highway 21 in Wilcox County Monday afternoon. Lolley lost control of her car after she swerved to avoid a trash can in the roadway.

Several ministers and a grief counselor were on hand at the Meadowview campus this week to help students deal with Lolley’s untimely death, said Meadowview Headmaster Dr. Michael Gaylor.

Gaylor said Meadowview students have produced a slideshow that will be viewed at the funeral service. Students are also organizing plans to honor Lolley’s memory on campus.

“We are going to be doing some other things – exactly what I don’t know yet,” Gaylor said. “Some kids are talking about planting a memorial tree in our rest area where the kids take a break in. Something that is appropriate.”

Gaylor said Lolley was involved in several school activities, including the Student Government Association and the Senior Beta Club. Lolley was also a member of the school’s softball team.

“She was an awfully good kid and she meant a lot to these kids,” Gaylor said. “She often sang the national anthem at our football games and had a very good voice. She was a leader in the school.”

Gaylor said grief counselors will remain at Meadowview as long as they are needed.
