A Meadowview Christian School student was killed Monday afternoon after her car struck a tree in Wilcox County.
Jessica Lolley, 17, of Selma, was traveling northbound on Alabama Highway 21 in Oak Hill when she swerved to avoid a trash can in the roadway and lost control of her 1989 Honda Accord at 12:30 p.m., said Alabama State Trooper John Reese. Lolley was killed upon impact.
“The wind apparently blew the trash can in her path,” Reese said. “She swerved and lost control of the vehicle. The vehicle spun out of control, left the roadway and hit a tree.”
Lolley was traveling with her 11-year-old sister, Billinda, and front seat passenger Benson Girley, whose age was unspecified. Billinda suffered a broken arm and was transported by ambulance to John Paul Jones Hospital in Camden. Girley was also transported to John Paul Jones Hospital with minor injuries.
“The accident is still under investigation,” Reese said.
