Sarah Josephine Williams Latham

Almighty God the Father carried HIS child, Sara Josephine Williams Latham, into HIS eternal Holy Tabernacle on February 14, 2007 where she joined The Church Triumphant following a decline in health of many years.

She was a resident of Park Place.

Dr. Kenny Hatcher, pastor of Northside Baptist Church and Rev. George K. Jones, Sr. will officiate at a Celebration of Life service at the New Live Oak Cemetery on February 17, 2007 at 2:00 p.m. with Selma Funeral Home directing.

Born on December 28, 1920, she was the eldest daughter of Selma natives, the late Norman Price and Alice Williams and the widow of Lester Audrey Teat, beloved father of their two daughters who survive them, Doris (George) Taylor of Selma and Norma Jo (Jack) Jackson of Charleston, TN.

Also surviving her are her beloved grandson, Percy Laymond (Bubba) Marsh II and great granddaughter, Sierra Cheyenne Marsh of Theodore, AL; a granddaughter, Tammy Lynn Marsh (Leith) Wilson and great granddaughter, Elizabeth and great grandsons, Kristopher and Laymond Wilson all of Selma.

Mrs. Latham was also the widow of Oscar Latham of Maplesville.

Additional family members preceding her death were a beloved younger sister, Frances Williams Martin, an older brother, Norman Williams and his wife, Ellen (Whitcomb) Williams, Gloria Guinn Youngblood (Marshall) Williams all of Selma.

Mrs. Latham was educated at the Dallas Academy and A. G. Parrish High School and during World War II, served her country in the Women’s Air Corps and was honorably discharged.

She earned a certificate and was trained as a nurse’s aide, after which, she was on staff at the former Selma Baptist Hospital on Water Avenue and then at the former Good Samaritan Hospital in the pediatric department.

Following a near fatal motor vehicle accident in 1968 and now handicapped, she entered an early retirement which she found gave her more time to enjoy her adored grandchildren and watching them grow into maturity.

She spent her later years in the Wesleyan Methodists Home for the Handicapped & Aging, The Epworth House in Selma, where she spear-headed efforts and labored a number of years with the assistance of her many friends and neighbors to acquire $40,000 plus to provide the facility a handicapped equipped fifteen passenger van.

She was also active for a number of years in the RSVP Program at the Selma-Dallas County Courthouse under the direction of her dear friend, Mrs. Joy Christian.

She received her spiritual training from Church Street United Methodist, after which she was a member of the former Central Baptist, now Valley Grande Baptist Church.

At the time of her death she was a member of Northside Baptist Church.

During her many years of life, she enjoyed fishing with friends, traveling and enjoying the Gulf Coast where she sailed with her children, working in her flower garden, quilting and sewing.

Honorary pallbearers are her grandson, Percy Laymond Marsh II, Dr. Boyd Bailey, Dr. Jacob Wood, Dr. Santhi Das, Judge Johnny Jones, Rev. George K. Jones, Randall and Betty Miller, Kathy Smith, Betty Pitts, Joe Bearden and William A. (Bill) Wise.

Pallbearers are Frank Calloway, Sam Hillman, Norman Copeland, Darren Yarborough, David Small, and Mac Jones.

Visitation will be held Friday, Feb. 16, 2007 from 6:00 to 8:00 at Selma Funeral Home.

Mr. Percy Bradford, Sr., age 70, of Bellamy, Alabama passed February 11, 2007 at D.C.H. Regional Medical Center in Tuscaloosa, Alabama.

Funeral services will be held on Saturday, February 17, 2007 at

11:00 AM at the Bethel-Pine Baptist Church in Coatopa, Alabama. Rev. Floyd O. Bell is the pastor. Rev. John Wright will officiate. Interment will follow in Oak Grove Cemetery in Coatopa, Alabama.

Johnny Jackson

Johnny Jackson, age 98, of Catherine, AL died on February 7, 2007 at a local hospital.

Funeral services will be held on Saturday, February 17, 2007 at 12:00 pm

at Bethel AME Church with Rev. C. L. Franklin officiating and Lewis Brothers Funeral Home directing.
