Anna Catherine Shannon Fitts

Anna Catherine Shannon Fitts of Tuscaloosa, long time registrar at the University of Alabama Law School, died Jan. 17, 2007 at a Tuscaloosa nursing home.

Services were held Saturday, January 20 at St. Francis University Church with the Rev. Gerald Holloway and Rev. Ray Dunmyer officiating.

Burial followed at Tuscaloosa Memorial Park under the direction of Heritage Chapel Funeral Home.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Alston Fitts II of Tuscaloosa; her parents, Charles R. and Alta Shannon of Laurel, Miss.; and her sister, Gertrude Collins of Sturgis, Ky.

She is survived by her children, Alston Fitts III (Anne) of Selma; Marie Fitts Knox of Birmingham; Ann Fitts Zeck (Van) of Arlington, Va., and Bill Fitts (Anne Gibbons) of Tuscaloosa; her sister Stella Clark of Sperryville, Va.; her brother James Shannon (Shirley) of Georgetown, Texas; and eight grandchildren and ten great-grandchildren.

Mrs. Fitts worked at the University of Alabama Law School for 20 years.

For much of that time she served as registrar, a job she relished as it kept her in contact with the students.

She also worked as a volunteer at St. Francis.

Donations may be made to the Anna C. Fitts Scholarship Fund at the University of Alabama Law School, to Saint Francis University Parish, or to a favorite charity.

Mrs. Della W. Bender Dawson

Mrs. Della W. Bender Dawson of Selma, Ala. died on February 1, 2007 in Birmingham, Ala.

Funeral services will be held on Saturday, February 10, 2007 at 1:00 p.m. at new Bethel Baptist Church, Collirene, Ala. (Highway 9) with Rev. J.D. Ruffin officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery with Green Chapel (Stringer) Funeral Home directing.

Delores Stone Gates

Delores Stone Gates, age 76, of Midway Park died Sunday, February 4, 2007 at Onslow Memorial Hospital.

A memorial service will be held at 6:00 p.m. Thursday at Enon Chapel Baptist Church with Rev. Jim Kelley officiating and Jones Funeral Home directing.
