Selma’s future in the balance

To the Editor:
In response to Joe Bumbrey’s letter, What’s Going On With Our Elected Officials? Feb. 2, 2007, I have to agree with him wholeheartedly. Unfortunately, I haven’t had a chance to attend any of the city council “meetings” but I have read about the shenanigans going on at city hall in the paper.
Selma’s future is hanging in the balance. If you’ve ever driven around town and seen the boarded up houses, people hanging out because they have no jobs or nothing to do, and crime, one can’t help but to think that our city is on the balance downward.
To quote Mr. Bumbrey, “Never forget you represent the people and not yourself.” If the mayor and city council truly care about Selma’s fate they would take heed to those words. The citizens of Selma have a responsibility to make sure that they do.
