To the Editor:
National studies revealed those students who have access to computer-assisted instruction and other technology-related experiences show achievement gains on various tests.
A technology-rich school environment motivates students, strengthens their academic and career/technical skills, and helps them relate to the real world.
Technology is primarily used at the School of Discovery Genesis Center as a tool to enhance students’ learning in reading, writing, mathematics, science, social studies, and research skills.
Our technology-related accomplishments are: getting students to use the Internet to gather information, teaching students to use computers, printers, scanners and digital cameras in completing challenging projects. The school is unique with its accommodations of a mathematics computer laboratory.
The School of Discovery Genesis Center has a strong on-going technology professional development plan for its faculty members in the “Third Monday Technology Workshop.”
When teachers improve their technology skills and use those improved skills to integrate technology across the content areas, student achievement soars.
