Percy Edward

Percy Edward &8220;PEP&8221; Parrish, Sr. 84, passed away on January 5, 2007 in Selma.

Graveside services will be Monday, January 8, 2006, 11:00 a.m. at Pineview Memory Gardens with Rev. Al Finch and Rev. Micah Gandy officiating and Selma Funeral Home directing.

Visitation will be Sunday, January 7, 2006, 6-8:00 p. m. at the funeral home.

Born June 3, 1922, in Farmersville, Lowndes County, Alabama, one of seven children born to Sarah Ida Sharpe Parrish and Walter Hubert Parrish.

PEP is preceded in death by his wife of 62 years, Norma Dolphan &8220;Dot&8221; Parrish, his parents, brother Preston &8220;Pete&8221; Parrish and grandson, Jeffrey Williams.

Mr. Parrish served in the U.S. Army Air Corp from 1942-1947, as a flight engineer in India.

He was a Shriner with the Alcazar Shriner’s Temple.

He served as an assistant scoutmaster of Troop 97 in Potter Station, AL.

In 1948, PEP and his uncle, Woodrow Sharpe, opened S & P Furniture Co. in Selma.

Later PEP became sole proprietor of the business located on Washington Street and then on Water Ave. until the late 1970’s.

He built and owned the &8220;Treasure House&8221; store until his death.

A devoted husband and loving father, Mr. Parrish is survived by his daughter, Gayle and husband, Spike Williams of Selma, AL; sons, Philip and wife, Starr of Memphis, TN and Ed and wife, Sherry of Oneonta, AL; sisters, Frances Parrish Hill of Hayden, AL, Jewell Parrish Johnson, Lee Parrish King and Patricia Parrish King all of Selma, AL and Nancy Parrish Troha of Elberta, AL.

He had eight grandchildren and 14 great grandchildren.

PEP leaves his faithful canine companion, &8220;Miss Alice,&8221; his cocker spaniel who will miss him.

Pallbearers will be Phillip Lewis, Mike Scroggins, Alan Frew, Carl Mott, Scott Mitchell, Buddy Hardin, Bo White and Cale Parrish.

Thomas Dion Robinson

Thomas Dion Robinson, age 34, of Hayneville, AL died on January 4, 2007. Funeral services were held on Saturday, January 6, 2007 at 10:00 a.m. at the Lily Baptist Church with Rev. Fletcher Fountain officiating. Burial in Mt. Calvary Cemetery with Bell Funeral Home directing.

Ms. Bettie Jackson

Ms. Bettie Jackson, age 89, of Sardis, AL died on January 5, 2007 at Vaughan Regional Medical Center. Funeral services will be announced at a later date by Miller Funeral Service.

Ms. Mattie L. Moorer

Ms. Mattie L. Moorer, age 91, of Hayneville, AL died on December 30, 2006 at her residence. Funeral services will be held on Sunday, January 7, 2007 at 1:00 p.m. at Shiloh Baptist Church in Gordonville, AL with Rev. Lionel Davis, Sr. officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery with Miller Funeral Service directing.

Survivors include: two sons, George Hardy and Hiwatha Burke (Hartford, CT); two daughters, Mildred Moorer and Connie (James) Martin; seven grandchildren, five great grandchildren, and one son-in-law. Her extended family includes: one nephew, three grandchildren and two great grandchildren and a host of close relatives and friends.

Mr. Eddie Blue, Jr.

Mr. Eddie Blue, Jr., age 35, of Selma, AL died on January 5, 2007 at Jackson Hospital. Funeral services will be announced at a later date by Miller Funeral Service.

Willie Mae &8220;Billie&8221;

Lumpkin

Willie Mae &8220;Billie&8221; Lumpkin, age 92, died Friday January 5, 2007 in New York. Funeral services will be held in the Chapel of Lawrence Brown-Service Funeral Home at 10:00 A.M. on Friday January 12, 2007. Burial will follow in Pineview Memory Gardens. She is survived by her two sisters, Mary Jo (Oscar) Willis and Betty Capitina, two daughters and their husbands, Boots and Michael Shalhoub and Mary and Mason Sitzes, 9 grandchildren, 10 great grandchildren, and 1 great great granddaughter. She was preceded in death by her husband, James Barry Lumpkin, and parents, Salvatore Capitina and Addie Lawrence Capitina. The family will receive friends Thursday January 11, 1007 from 3:00 P.M. to 7:00 P.M. at the funeral home.
