Selma police were called to Winn Dixie at 1352 Highland Ave. Saturday afternoon to find a Selma man attempting to steal some beef.

Daniel Lynn Cowan, 42, of 36-A Hidden Acres, was arrested and charged with robbery for allegedly attempting to steal beef rib roasts valued at $214.02, according to police reports. Cowan reportedly had the beef inside his clothing and threatened store employees when they attempted to stop him from leaving.

When police arrived Cowan put up a fight, including head-butting officer Ronald Jones, according to police reports. Cowan was additionally charged with assaulting a police officer. He was jailed and released Saturday night on $10,000 bond.
