James H. Martin
James H. Martin, age 89, of Sprott, Ala. died on December 6, 2006 at Vaughan Hospital in Selma.
Complete arrangements will be announced later by Lee & Rollins Funeral Home.
John Thomas Moore, IV
John Thomas Moore, IV, of Delray Beach, Fla. passed away October 14, 2006.
A memorial service and burial will be Sunday, December 10, 2006 at 2:30 p.m. at Orrville Cemetery with Rev. Henry Smith, Calvin Bowie, and Rev. Tom Rimmer officiating and Selma Funeral Home directing.
Interment will be in Orrville Cemetery.
He is survived by his parents, Dr. John T. and Carolyn M. Moore, III ; sister, Dianne (Wes) Hardin and two nephews, Wesley and Davis Hardin.
Mr. James Courtland
Mr. James Courtland, age 81, of Selma, Ala. died on December 1, 2006 at Vaughan Regional Hospital.
Funeral services will be held on Saturday, December 9, 2006 at 12:00 p.m. at Morning Star Missionary Baptist Church with Rev. Booker T. Booker officiating. Burial will follow in Fairlawn Cemetery with Miller Funeral service directing.
Survivors include: wife, Bertha Courtland; one granddaughter, Donnia Courtland of Dearborn, Mich.; one brother, Ocie Courtland; four grandchildren; two brothers-in-laws; four sisters-in-laws; one aunt, Mary Courtland of Selma; one uncle, Emanuel Courtland of Orrville.
Pallbearers will be nephews and friends.

Mr. James Albert, age 54, of Selma, Ala. died on December 5, 2006 at his residence.

Mrs. Cetonia M. Sallie
Mrs. Cetonia M. Sallie, age 83, of Park Place Nursing Home died on December 4, 2006 at Vaughan Regional Medical Center.
Funeral services will be held on Saturday, December 9, 2006 at 2:00 p.m. at Friendship Baptist Church with Rev. David Perry officiating. Burial will follow in the churchyard cemetery with Miller Funeral Service directing.
Survivors include: one son, Willie (Deloris) Sallie; six grandchildren; fifteen great grandchildren; one daughter-in-law; one brother-in-law; one sister-in-law; and a host of relatives and friends.
Mrs. Courtny Gilbert
Mrs. Courtny Gilbert, age 86, of Forkland, Alabama passed December 3, 2006 at Bryan Whitfield Hospital in Demopolis, Alabama.
Funeral services will be held Sunday, December 10, 2006 at 1:00 p.m. at the Birdine AME zion Church in Forkland, Alabama. Rev. Stanley Hickey will officiate. Interment will follow in the adjoining cemetery.
The remains will repose at the church on Saturday beginning at 12:00 noon.

Columbus Belcher
Columbus Belcher, age 52, of Marion, Ala. died November 30, 2006 in Meadowood Nursing Home in Bessemer, Ala.
Funeral will be Saturday, December 9, 2006 from the Lil Rock Baptist Church at 1:00 p.m. Pastor Rev. Leo King will officiate.
Burial will follow in the Ellard Cemetery with Lee & Rollins Funeral Home directing.
Christopher (Chris) Marshall Brooks
Christopher (Chris) Marshall Brooks was born in Selma, Alabama to the late William P. and Julia L. Brooks, Sr. on September 12, 1920.
He was the third of five sons and two daughters. Four brothers, William P., Jr., Milton Kynette, Henry Lindsey, and Charles Edward and one sister, Sara Louise preceded him in death.
Chris was baptized the first Sunday in March 1925, at the United Presbyterian Church in Prairie, Alabama.
His formative education was in the United Presbyterian Schools at Prairie and Miller’s Ferry, Alabama, where he graduated from high school in 1938.
He spent several years in the Civilian Conservation Crop. (CCC), serving in Dallas County.
In 1941 he joined the United States military where he served in both the Army and the Air Force covering 27 years.
Chris married Marjorie Porter of Selma on June 23, 1951, who accompanied him to several bases in the United States as well as in Europe.
He retired from the Air Force on August 30, 1968 with the rank of Master Sergeant.
Upon his retirement he and Marjorie made their home here in Selma.
He was a member and served as an elder of the Reformed Presbyterian Church.
At the time of his death he was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church.
He was active in the Civil Rights Protests of the nineties and worked with the National Voting Rights Museum.
Fond memories of Chris will be cherished by his devoted wife; his sister, Ruth; four sisters-in-laws; one brother-in-law; three first cousins; several generations of nieces and nephews; and other relatives and friends.
Funeral services will be held on Saturday, December 9, 2006 at 11:00 a.m. at Lewis Brothers Funeral Home Chapel and interment will follow at Lincoln Cemetery with Lewis Brothers Funeral Home directing.
Carl Edward “Lil Bro” Waugh
Carl Edward “Lil Bro” Waugh, age 67, of Selma, Ala. died on December 3, 2006 at his home.
Funeral services will be held on Saturday, December 9, 2006 at 1:00 p.m. at Shiloh Baptist Church with Pastor Joshua Davis officiating. Burial will follow in Elmwood Cemetery with Walker Mortuary directing.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Bessie Waugh; his parents, Mr. Eli, Sr. and Mamie Leola White Waugh; one brother, Pettus Waugh; and one sister, Geneva Waugh Glover.
Survivors include: one son, Carl E. (Top-Cat) Waugh, Jr. of Mobile, Ala.; one daughter, Gwendolyn Bates of Selma, Ala.; one brother, Eli Waugh, Jr. of Selma, Ala.; two sisters, Laurena C. Waugh of Selma, Ala. and Willetta Waugh Smith of Far Rockaway, N.Y.; one grandchild; two brothers-in-laws; two sisters-in-laws and a host of nieces and nephews.
Pallbearers and Honorary Pallbearers will be family and friends.
Mr. Ulysses Washington
Mr. Ulysses Washington, age 65, of Raleigh, North Carolina, formerly of Boligee, Alabama passed December 5, 2006 at Wake Forest Medical Center in Raleigh, North Carolina.
Funeral services will be held Saturday, December 9, 2006 at 2:00 p.m. at Springhill Baptist Church in Boligee, Alabama. Rev. Willie Gaines will officiate. Interment will follow in the adjoining cemetery.

Eugene Ford, Jr., age 71, of Plantersville, Ala. died on November 30, 2006 at Vaughan Regional Medical Center in Selma.
Funeral services will be held on Saturday, December 9, 2006 at 1:00 p.m. at Phillips Grove Baptist Church with Rev. Kirk Ellison officiating.
Burial will follow in Pineview Memory Gardens with Lewis Brothers Funeral Home directing.
Survivors include: spouse, Mrs. Estelle Ford; one daughter, Cynthia Joyce (Leonard) Robinson; seven brothers, Cleophus (Emma), Will T. (Vivian), Thomas (Sarah), John (Emma), Clinton (Melinda), Frank (Willa) of Chicago, Ill., Arthur of Florida; four sisters, Dorothy (McHenery) of Kentucky, Essie of Chicago, Mary (Ervin) and Glenda Faye. Three grandchildren, eight great grandchildren; one son-in-law; three brothers-in-laws, and seven sisters-in-laws.

LaQuesa M. Dixon, age 19, of Selma, Ala. died on December 2, 2006 at Baptist Hospital South in Montgomery, Ala.
Funeral services will be held on Saturday, December 9, 2006 at 1:00 p.m. at Shiloh Baptist Church in Potter Station with Pastor Dan Moore officiating. Burial will follow in Elmwood Cemetery with Lewis Brothers Funeral Home directing.
Survivors include: mother, Emma Jean Dixon; one brother, Joshua D’Andre Dixon of Selma, Ala.; one sister, Shamekia Joemel Dixon of Endicott, N.Y.; grandparents, James (Annie) Dixon and Yvonne Mitchell; great grandmother, Emma Dixon, all of Selma, Ala.
Pallbearers will be the Selma High Class of 2005 and her uncles, Albert Dixon of North Carolina and James Dixon of Birmingham, Ala.

Mr. Michael Martin, age 43, of Cincinnati, Ohio died on December 4, 2006 in Kentucky.
Funeral services will be held on Sunday, December 10, 2006 at 11:30 a.m. at Miller’s Chapel with Pastor Martin officiating. Burial will follow in Pineview Cemetery with Miller Funeral Service directing.
Survivors include: his mother, Marcella Martin; six brothers, Ricky Martin, George Martin, Edward Martin, Steven Martin and David Martin; two sisters, Betty Jones and Mary Martin; one brother-in-law; two sisters-in-laws; six nieces and five nephews.

Mrs. Lucille Carter, age 61, of Boligee, Alabama passed December 3, 2006 at D.C.H. Regional Medical Center in Tuscaloosa, Alabama.
Funeral services will be held Saturday, December 9, 2006 at 12:00 p.m. at Little Zion Baptist Church in Boligee, Alabama. Rev. Willie Carter is the pastor and Rev. Porter will officiate. Interment will follow in the adjoining cemetery.
The remains will repose at the church on Saturday beginning at 11:00 a.m.

Helen Perry Ballard
Helen Perry Ballard, age 83, passed away Thursday, December 7, 2006 at a local nursing home.
Graveside services will be at 10:00 a.m. Saturday, December 9, 2006 at New Live Oak Cemetery with Rev. Polk Van Zandt officiating and Lawrence Brown-Service Funeral home directing.
Mrs. Ballard is survived by her son, William Perry Ballard and daughter-in-law, Jane Ballard both of Fort Walton Beach, Fla. She is also survived by her sister-in-law; Pat Ballard of Albuquerque, NM; brother-in-law, Richard Ballard of San Francisco; and numerous nieces and nephews. Mrs. Ballard was married for 54 years to her loving husband, W.J., who preceded her in death in 2003. She was a member of several organizations: Cub Scout den mother, longtime poll worker, avid bridge player, and Cedar Hill bingo champion.

Funeral services will be held Saturday, December 9, 2006 at 1:00 p.m. at the New Morning Star Baptist Church in Demopolis, Alabama with Rev. Willie Williams officiating. Interment will follow in Memorial Cemetery in Demopolis, Alabama.
The remains will repose at the church on Saturday beginning at 12:00 noon.

Burial will follow at New Live Oak Cemetery. Survivors include: sons, Jimmy (Edna) Lane, Gary Don Lane; a daughter, Faye Lane; and nephew, Danny (Julia) Lane.
