James Cecil Smedley, Sr.

James Cecil Smedley, Sr., age 80, a resident of Statesville, Ala. died on Tuesday, December 5, 2006.

Funeral services will be at 2:00 p.m. on Thursday, December 7, 2006 from Ivey Creek United Methodist Church in Statesville, Ala. with Rev. Rusty Burleson and Rev. Fred Bailey officiating. Burial in the Ivey Creek Church Cemetery.

Visitation will be at the church from 1:00 p.m. to service time, Thursday.

He was preceded in death by his parents, William Eugene Smedley, Sr. and Martha Opelia Wright Smedley and his brother, William E. Smedley, Jr.

Survivors include: his wife, Grace Johnson Smedley of Jones, Ala.; son, James Cecil (Sandra) Smedley, Jr. of Statesville, Ala.; daughter, Sherrill Smedley (Vince) Rutherford of Ashville, N.C.; brother, Douglas Smedley of Autaugaville, Ala.; sister, Ella Abel of Hueytown, Ala.; grandchildren, James C. (Jenny) Smedley, III, Sean (Tiffanee) Smedley and Brandi (Josh) Prevatt; five great grandchildren, Cody, Alyssa, Caitlyn, Seanah and Lisa.

Pallbearers will be Wayne Johnson, Wade Johnson, Marc Johnson, Douglas Smedley, Jr., Craig Porter, and Keith Glaze.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations should be made to the American Heart Assn. or Ivy Creek United Creek Methodist Church or your favorite charity.

Marjorie Hunter Martin Friday

Marjorie Hunter Martin Friday, age 96, died in Birmingham on Tuesday December 5, 2006 after a short illness.

In 1936 she was married to William A. Martin and they had one son John Russell Martin, who survives with his wife Gay M. Martin, grandchildren, Eliza M. Racine and John Russell Martin, Jr., and great grandchildren, Margaret Racine and Caroline Racine.

In 1973, she married W.C. Friday and is survived by his children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren.

Mrs. Friday was born in Carlowville, Ala. on November 19, 1910.

She was a graduate of Samford University and received her masters degree from the University of Alabama and taught elementary education in the state for over 35 years.

As a lifelong member of the Baptist Church, she enjoyed participating in several of its ministries.

Funeral services will be held at the First Baptist Church, Selma, Ala., December 7, 2006 at 11:00 a.m. with Dr. John Fain officiating and Lawrence Funeral Home directing.

Pallbearers are Ralph Friday, Fred Friday, Leo Friday, Claude Friday, Wayne Friday, and James Wiggins.

Eugene Ford, Jr.

Eugene Ford, Jr., age 71, of Plantersville, Ala. died on November 30, 2006 at Vaughan Regional Medical Center in Selma.

Funeral services will be held on Saturday, December 9, 2006 at 1:00 p.m. at Phillips Grove Baptist Church with Rev. Kirk Ellison officiating. Burial will follow in Pineview Memory Gardens with Lewis Brothers Funeral Home directing.

Survivors include: spouse, Mrs. Estelle Ford; one daughter, Cynthia Joyce (Leonard) Robinson; seven brothers, Cleophus (Emma), Will T. (Vivian), Thomas (Sarah), John (Emma), Clinton (Melinda), Frank (Willa) of Chicago, IL, Arthur of Florida; four sisters, Dorothy (McHenery) of Kentucky, Essie of Chicago, Mary (Ervin) and Glenda Faye. Three grandchildren, eight great grandchildren; one son-in-law; three brothers-in-laws, and seven sisters-in-laws.

Pallbearers will be nephews.
