James Martin

James Martin, age 75, of Selma, Alabama died on November 23, 2006 at Jackson Hospital in Montgomery, Ala.

Funeral services will be held on November 29, 2006 at 11:00 a.m. at Queen of Peace Catholic Church with Father Plourde officiating. Burial will follow in Pineview Cemetery with Lewis Brothers Funeral Home directing.

Survivors include: three sons, James Martin, Jr., Cedric Martin and Russell Martin; two daughters, Linda Golston (Adrian) and Beverly Martin; one brother, Clarence Martin (Dorothy) of Detroit, Mich.; two sisters, Mrs. Louise M. Childers and Mrs. Mable M. Franklin; four grandchildren; two sisters-in-laws, Dorothy Martin and Gladys Martin; a special niece, Elmyra Smith and a host of nieces and nephews.

Ms. Willie Vernon Bennett

Ms. Willie Vernon Bennett, age 88, of Marion, Ala. died on November 26, 2006 at UAB.

Funeral services will be held at Siloam Baptist Church on November 29, 2006 at 11:00 a.m. with Dr. Mark Tew officiating. Interment will follow in Calvary Baptist Church with Kirk Funeral Homes Marion Chapel directing.

The family will receive friends from 6:00 – 8:00 p.m. on Tuesday, November 28, 2006 at Kirk Funeral Homes Marion Chapel

Ms. Bennett was preceded in death by her first husband, Mike Holifield; son, Larry Holifield and second husband, Wilson Bennett.

Survivors include: daughters, Evelyn Blake of Montevallo, Ala. and Janice Wiley of Mecedes, Texas; son, Claude Holifield of San Diego, Texas; sisters, Maude Holifield of Marion, Ala., Cecile Hulgan of Tuscaloosa, Ala., Ellen Beecham of Lexington, Ky.; Frances Camp of New Orleans, La., and Catherine Rinehart of McCalla, Ala.; seven grandchildren, four great grandchildren, and three great-great grandchildren.

Baby Girl Katelyn N. Young

Baby Girl Katelyn N. Young, age 4 months, of Safford, Ala. died on November 25, 2006 at Children’s Hospital in Birmingham, Ala.

Funeral services will be Wednesday, November 29, 2006 at 3:00 p.m. at Christian Light in Alberta with Rev. Nathaniel Parker officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery with Miller Funeral Service directing.

Survivors include: her parents, Walter Phillips and Sylvia Young; grandparents, Catherine Shorts, John Shorts, Ola Phillips and Walter Phillips, I; two brothers, Mark Young, Jr. and Ah’John Young; and host of other relatives and friends.

Adolph Griffin, of Sardis, Ala. died on November 25, 2006 in Sardis.

Roosevelt Roberson, age 81, of Marion, Ala. died on November 23, 2006 in Perry County Nursing Home.

Funeral services will be Wednesday at 2:00 p.m. from Mt. Tabor AME Baptist Church in Marion, AL. The pastor Rev. Ivey Bryant will officiate. Burial will follow in Mt. Tabor Cemetery with Lee & Rollins Funeral Home directing.

Willie Lee Dobynes, age 60, died at his home in Brent, Ala. on November 26, 2006.
