Willie Elizabeth Sewell-Bailey

Willie Elizabeth Sewell-Bailey was born December 31, 1947 in Selma. She was the oldest daughter of Marzella Sewell and the late Marion Sewell Sr. Willie accepted Christ in her life at an early age at Shiloh Baptist Church. Willie was raised and attended public school in Selma, graduating from R.B. Hudson High School. Post graduation she moved to Cleveland, Ohio.

She was united in holy matrimony to Milton Bailey. From this union, 2 children were born, Kendra and Brandan. Willie continued to practice her faith in Cleveland, Ohio at East Mt. Zion Baptist Church; she continued to be a devoted and faithful servant until death. The highlight of Willie’s life was spent working with the Courteous Committee East Mt. Zion as well as working with Youth of Distinction. Willie loved life and enjoyed her family and friends. She touched so many lives with her kind heart and love; she will be greatly missed, and never forgotten.

Willie pursued her career as a yellow page manager with (Ohio Bell), Ameritech, where she retired in November 2002. Unable to remain idle, she started a new career at Alltel (Wind stream) where she remained until her illness.

On Saturday, Nov. 18, 2006 at 7:40 am the Lord called a dutiful servant from labor to reward. She leaves to cherish her loving memory: one daughter, Kendra; one son, Brandon; all of Cleveland, Ohio; a step daughter, Bernadette of Maplesville, Alabama; her mother, Marzella Sewell of Selma, Alabama; five sisters, Margaret of Saudi Arabia, Lola of Selma, Alabama, Geraldine and Vanessa of Powder Springs, Georgia, and Cynthia (Darrell) of Selma, Alabama; one brother, Marion (Brenda) of Woodbridge, Virginia; a special brother, Sherman of Twinsburg, Ohio; adopted sister, Donna of Powder Springs, Georgia; and a host of nephews, nieces, great nieces, aunts, uncles, cousins and extended family members, as well as a long list of special friends, to numerous to name.

Funeral services will be held on Saturday, November 25, 2006 at 1:00 p.m. at Shiloh Baptist Church in Selma with Rev. Dan Moore officiating and Lewis Brothers Funeral Home directing.

Patty Sue Brown

Patty Sue Brown, age 73, of Selma died on November 22, 2006 at a local hospital. Graveside services will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, November 25, 2006 at New Live Oak Cemetery with Rev. Jim Parker officiating and Lawrence Funeral Home directing.

Survivors include: sons, Jeffrey Allen Brown, Randy Earl Brown and Robert (Debbie) Brown; five grandchildren, Mistie B. Odom, Jon M. Brown, Tommy Brady, Emily B. Brown, and Jennifer R. Brown; and two great grandchildren; one sisters, Sarah M. Hunter of Brawson, MO.

Kenneth Larry Jones

Kenneth Larry Jones, 63, of Selma died Wednesday, November 22, 2006 at a Shelby County hospital. Services will be held Saturday, November 25, 2006 at 11:00 a.m. at Westwood Baptist Church with Rev. Ed Eaton and Rev. Henry Levert officiating and Lawrence Funeral Home directing.

Survivors include: his wife, Betty Hudgens Jones; daughter, Cindy (Tommy) Ellis; son, Kenneth Jones (Sandy); grandchildren, Brandy Jones Huey (Jeremy), Mallory and Taylor Ellis; brother, Gerry (Betty) Jones.

Visitation will be Friday, November 24, 2006 from 6-8 pm at Lawrence Funeral Home. In lieu of flowers the family requests that donations be made to Westwood Baptist Church Debt Retirement Fund or Diabetes Association.

Active pallbearers will be the Deacons of Westwood Baptist Church. Honorary pallbearers will be the Ready Sunday School Class.

Dr. Bessie Rivers-Grayson

Dr. Bessie Rivers-Grayson of Huntsville, Ala., a former native of Thomaston, Ala., died recently in Detroit, Mich.

Graveside funeral services will be held Saturday, Nov. 25, 2006, at 11:30 a.m. at Glover’s Cemetery, Thomaston.

The Rev. James Clarke will officiate.

Public viewing will be held Friday evening from 6 to 8 p.m. at the First Missionary Baptist Church, 3509 Blue Spring Road in Huntsville.

James Martin of Selma died Nov. 23, 2006 in a Montgomery hospital.

A service will be announced at a later time.

23, 2006, at his home.

Lula Bell Moorer

Lula Bell Moorer, 79, of Minter, died Nov.

21, 2006, at a Montgomery hospital

A service will be held at 1 p.m. on Nov. 25, 2006, at the First Baptist Church of Farmersville, Ala., with Elder Allen Barnette officiating.

Interment will be at First Baptist Cemetery.

She is survived by her spouse, Robert Moorer; five sons, James W., Wilbert, Ledel, William and Anthony Moorer; two daughters, Jessie Snow and Etherine Lee; two brothers, Willie Crum and Zebbie Crum; four sisters, Effie Foster, Mary B. Hall, Fannie Shine and Alma D. Crum; 17 grandchildren; 21 great-grandchildren; one son-in-law; four daughters-in-law; and five sisters-in-law.

The body will lie in state from 12 to 1 p.m.
