Event set Saturday to honor veterans

On the 11th hour of the 11th day of the 11th month, a ceremony will be held commemorating Veteran’s Day.
The event is set for 11 a.m. Saturday in front of Memorial Stadium.
On Thursday morning, ROTC cadets from Selma and Southside high schools held a service honoring veterans.
Students are out of school today in commemoration of Veteran’s Day.
Ruiz also mentioned celebrities who served their country, including Elvis Presley, Dr. Seuss, Bill Cosby and author Roald Dahl (&8220;Charlie and the Chocolate Factory&8221;).
He also gave statistics of those who have served their country:
World War I: 4.7 million served; 53,000 died
World War II: More than 16 million served; 291,000 died
Korea: 5.7 million served; 33,000 died
Vietnam: 8.7 million served; 47,424 died
Gulf War: 2.3 million served; 147 deaths
War on Terror: 1.3 million served so far; 2,027 deaths; 18,000 wounded
Following Ruiz’s remarks, the ROTC squadron leaders from Selma and Southside high schools placed a wreath at the monument honoring World War I and World War II soldiers.
A flag-folding demonstration was also held.
