Dr. Norman B. Smoot, PHD

Dr. Norman B. Smoot, PHD, 67, a native of Barbour County, AL, former resident of Selma, AL and resident of Fairhope, AL, died on Sunday, November 5, 2006.

Dr. Smoot graduated from Clayton High School in Barbour County and received his PHD at the University of Alabama in Administration of Higher Education.

He was an avid golfer and a member of the Quail Creek Golf Club.

He served on the Accreditation Team of the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools.

Dr. Smoot was business manager and professor for 32 years at Wallace Community College in Selma retiring in 2001.

He was a member of the First Baptist Church of Fairhope, former member of Elkdale Baptist Church and Memorial Methodist of Selma, an active member of Gideons International, member of Volunteer Auxiliary of Thomas Hospital, former member of the Lyons Club of Selma and the Civitan Club of Selma and was president of the Faculty Senate at Wallace Community College.

Survivors include his wife, Kathryn Smoot of Fairhope, AL; two daughters, Cindy Stuart of Livingston, AL and Laura (David Cisco) Crawford of Fairhope, AL; two brothers, William Shelton (Jeanice Tyler) Smoot, Jr. of Columbus, GA and Raymond (Carolyn Orr) Smoot of Fairhope, AL; one sister, Mary Evelyn (Herbert) Parr of Union Springs, AL; two grandsons, Drew Stuart and Pearson Stuart; and nieces, nephews and other relatives.

Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, November 8, 2006, at 11am from the chapel of Wolfe-Bayview Funeral Home with Dr. Jerry Henry officiating. Interment will follow at Memory Gardens in Fairhope.

The family will receive friends at 10am at the funeral home.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Gideons International or to the First Baptist.

Ms. Lucille Jones

Ms. Lucille Jones, age 89, of Selma, AL died on October 31, 2006.

Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, November 8, 2006 at 12 pm at Morning Star Baptist Church with Rev. Booker T. Booker, Jr. officiating. Burial will follow in Fairlawn Memorial Gardens with Lewis Brothers Funeral Home directing.

Sarah Williams, age 102, of Selma, AL died on November 3, 2006 at Park Place Nursing Home.

Funeral services and survivors will be announced at a later date by Miller Funeral Services.

Jessica Boggs Gullett

Jessica Boggs Gullett, age 29, of Selma, AL died on November 4, 2006 at Vaughan Regional Medical Center.
