William Goode Hudson

Retired Lt. Col. William Goode Hudson of Minter, AL passed away Friday, November 3, 2006 in a local nursing home at the age of 88.

Visitation will be from 1:30 – 2:30 P.M. Sunday November 5, 2006 at Selma Funeral Home. Graveside services will follow at 3:00 P.M. at New Live Oak Cemetery with Rev. Dan Thornton officiating and Selma Funeral Home directing

He is survived by his son-in-law, Scooter Haugen of Selma, grandchildren, Eric A. (Amy) Haugen of Selma, Amy (Jimmy) Stucky of Auburn and great grandchildren, Mary Carolyn and Anna Drew Haugen of Selma, and Lowrey Stucky of Auburn.

Retired Lt. Col Hudson recorded the first air-to-air attack victory of the Korean War in his F82G. His plane is credited with shooting the first one down over Kimpo Air Field in full view of witnesses who were below.

He is preceded in death by his wife, Betty Hudson, daughter, Mary Alice Haugen and grand son, Drew Haugen.

Opal LeVert Dalley

Opal LeVert Dalley, age 68, of Minter, died Friday, November 3, 2006 in Selma.

Funeral services will be held on Sunday, November 5, 2006 at 2 p.m. at Pineview Baptist Church with Rev. Terry Smith and Rev. Les Lee presiding. Burial will be held at Pineland Cemetery. Rockco Funeral Home of Centreville officiating.

She is survived by her husband, Chester J. Dalley of Minter; one son, Gregory Thomas Dalley (Marilyn) of Troy; two sisters, Betty LeVert Colburn of Brent and Dot LeVert Brown of Centreville; two brothers, Robert Edward LeVert of Conyers, GA and George Howard LeVert of Anniston; and two grandchildren, Amanda Dalley Bailey (Chris) and Gregory Thomas Dalley, Jr.

Robbie Gates Turberville

Turberville, Robbie Gates of Fostoria, AL entered into eternal rest on Nov. 2, 2006.

She was born on September 17,1917 in Selma, Alabama, a daughter of Robert E. Gates and Nettie Huguley Gates. She was a graduate of Carlowville High School, a long time resident of Fostoria and member of Braggs Christian Church.

She was preceded in death by her husband of sixty – six years, Hugh McDuffie Turberville; brothers Henry Huguley Gates, William Golson Gates, and Joe Brislin Gates; and grandson Brady McDuffie Farmer.

Mrs. Turberville is survived by a daughter, Judy Turberville Farmer and her husband Kerry Farmer of Summerville, S.C. ; granddaughter Hallie Ann Farmer ,also of Summerville; and a sister, Emma Gates Richards of Catherine, Alabama.

The funeral service will be Sunday, Nov. 5 at 2:30 pm at Braggs Christian Church. Interment will follow at Braggs Cemetery. The family will receive friends beginning at 1:30 pm at Braggs Christian Church prior to the funeral service.

Dunklin and Daniels Funeral Home of Greenville is in charge of the arrangements.

Sarah Moore McElroy

Sarah Moore McElroy, 84, passed October 30, 2006 at a local nursing facility.

Services will be Monday, November 6, 2006 at 12 noon at West Trinity Baptist Church with Rev. A. Williams officiating. Burial in Fairlawn Memory Gardens.

C.W. Riddle

C.W. Riddle, age 87, of Orrville, AL died on October 29, 2006 in Selma, AL.

Funeral services will be held on Saturday, November 4, 2006 at 1:30 pm at Antioch Baptist Church with Rev. Ward officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery with Miller Funeral Service directing.

Survivors include: wife, Addie Riddle; sons, David (Greta) Riddle, C.W. (Paula) Riddle, Jr. both of Birmingham, AL, Charles Walter Riddle of Orrville, AL and Charles Ghantt of Lufkin, TX; daughters, Dorothy Riddle-Gayle, Brenda Riddle, Rosie (Herman) Wilson of Selma, AL, Willie Mae (Willie) Wilson of Birmingham, AL and Ceola Riddle-Williams of Atlanta, GA; brothers, John Henry (Gertrude) James, Henry (Rose) James and Aaron (Georgia Pearl) James of Cleveland, OH; sisters, Lucy James of Orrville, AL, Annie M. Fair of Mobile, AL and Laurene Brown of Cleveland, OH. Also surviving are thirty-six grandchildren, two daughters-in-laws, three brothers-in-laws, three sons-in-laws, and six sisters-in-laws.

Pallbearers will be sons.

Vera Stone Jones

Vera Stone Jones, age 94, of Sprott, AL died on Friday, November 3, 2006 at Southland Nursing Home.

Funeral services will be held on Sunday, November 5, 2006 at 2:00 p.m. at Mt. Pleasant Church with Rev. Bill Wallace officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery with Kirk Funeral Homes Marion Chapel directing.

The family will receive friends from 1:00 – 2:00 p.m. at the church before the funeral on Sunday.

Survivors include: daughters, Dorothy Grant of Birmingham, Peggy Hightower of Sprott and Ruth Deavours of Marion; sons, Clyde Allen Jones of Sprott, John Richard Jones of Selma, Donnia Jones of Prattville and Dannie Jones of Selma; sisters, Mae Stewart of Maplesville, Margaret Synder of Marion and Nadine Stone of Selma; Fourteen grandchildren, eighteen great grandchildren and eight great-great grandchildren.
