Mary Etta Andrews

Mary Etta Andrews, 73, was called home by her Lord on Oct. 8, 2006.

She was born in Minter, Ala. June 11, 1933, the daughter of the late Willie and Millie Bolton.

She was raised on a farm by her great-grandmother, Hester Jones, and remained there until she later moved to Racine, Wis., where she lived until her death.

She had three great loves in her life – her God, family and church.

She grew up in challenging conditions, but always had a strong spiritual base.

A member of Allen Chapel AME Church, she raised her four children – Lee Edward, James, Jesse, and Patricia – in a strictly religious home, constantly encouraging them to succeed.

That included three nephews she raised as her own: Johnny Lee, Connell and Jerome. She praised, pushed, spanked and loved them unconditionally.

She was active in the Minter community, serving

on the PTA at the old Minter Union Elementary School, which she attended as a child.

She moved her family to Racine in 1969, where she resided for the next 37 years.

There, she was employed by Westview Nursing Home and became an active member of the Israel of God Church WHA.

But she returned to Minter often to visit family and old friends, including Horace and Jessie Lee Christian (“Tea”) and Mrs. Estherlene Chrishon, affectionately known as “Mrs. Little Mack,” one of her former teachers from Minter Union.

She leaves behind her children to cherish her memories: Lee Edward (Sandi) Andrews of Lady Lake, Fla., James Andrews of Selma, Ala., Jesse (Marjorie) Andrews of Pleasant Prairie, Wis., Patricia (Owen) Tabois of Fort Lauderdale, Fla.; her three nephews, Johnny Lee Herring of Milwaukee, Connell Herring of Racine, and Jerome Herring currently in Iraq.

She also leaves a special goddaughter, Arzula (Curley) Snow of Racine, and a host of relatives and friends.

Her homegoing service was held in Racine, on Oct. 14, 2006.
