The child of an accused abuser was released from a Birmingham hospital over the weekend following surgery, but more surgery is to come along with almost daily trips to the doctor’s office.

The grandmother of the 4-month-old infant said Tuesday the baby had swelling of the brain and had been bleeding internally. A surgical procedure was performed Friday at Children’s Hospital when a tube to relieve the pressure was implanted in the infant’s tiny head.

Keebler said doctors told them the shunt would be taken out in three to six months, and it was too early to know if additional surgery would be required. She said doctors told her the child did appear to have been shaken, in addition to the blunt force trauma.

Michael Anthony Goings, 29, remains jailed on $300,000 bond after he was arrested Oct. 13 and charged with child abuse and domestic violence assault.

Goings is scheduled for arraignment in Dallas County Circuit Court on Nov. 1, according to court records.
