Infant injury: Selma firefighter remains in jail

The Selma firefighter charged with domestic violence assault in connection with a hospitalized infant remained jailed Monday on $300,000 bond.

Michael A. Goings, 29, of 720 Carmichael Rd. was arrested on Friday and charged with child abuse and domestic violence assault, according to police reports.

A bond hearing is scheduled for this week, and could be as early as today. At that time, an attorney for Goings may ask the court to lower his bond.

The infant, who sustained a head injury,

is listed in stable condition at Children’s Hospital in

Birmingham, according to Selma Police Department investigators.

Police Chief Jimmy Martin said the case is under further investigation.

Information surrounding the injury of the four-month-old is not available. Martin did say additional charges could be brought against others in the case, but would not elaborate on the details.

According to police, Goings allegedly fractured the child’s skull.
