Gloria E. Browning

Gloria E Browning, age 81, died Saturday October 7, 2006 in a local hospital.

She was survived by her daughter, Kandy Browning-Tirb and her husband John of Miami, Florida, four grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.

Mrs. Browning was preceded in death by her husband, Richard Browning, her daughter, Penny Clearman, and her grandson, Bo Perry.

Burial will be in New Live Oak Cemetery Tuesday, October 10, 2006.

Funeral arrangements have been entrusted to Lawrence Brown-Service Funeral Home, Inc.

Samuel Reuben Dejarnette

Samuel Reuben Dejarnette, age 72, of Selma, Alabama died on October 3, 2006 at Vaughan Regional Medical Center. Funeral services will be Monday, October 9, 2006 at 12:00 PM at West Trinity Baptist Church with Rev. A. Williams officiating. The body will lie in state at the church beginning at 11:00 AM until services. Burial will follow at Fairlawn Memory Gardens with Lewis Brothers Funeral Home directing.

Survivors include: spouse, Elzora Dejarnette; parents, Samuel and Henrietta Dejarnette; two sons, Samuel C. Dejarnette and Willie J. Dejarnette; three daughters, Melanie Dejarnette, Shirley Wyatt and Francis Perkins; one sister, Lula Vaughn Christian; four grandchildren; four great grandchildren, two sons-in-laws, two daughters-in-laws, one brother-in-law.

Cousins will serve as pallbearers.

Antonia M. (Pupi) Krevatin Hines

Antonia M. (Pupi) Krevatin Hines, age 90, died on Tuesday, October 3, 2006 at Vaughan Regional Medical Center in Alabama. Funeral services were held at 11:00 AM on Friday, October 06, 2006 at Ott & Lee Funeral Home Chapel in Forest, MS. Rev. Kenneth Harrison officiated.

Mrs. Hines was a native of Italy and had been a resident of Selma, AL for over 43 years formerly having lived in Forest, MS. She was a member of Shiloh Baptist Church and the Woo Club. Mrs. Hines loved to crochet. She was preceded in death by her husband, Paul F. Hines; grandson, Bobby Hines; two sisters and two brothers.

Survivors include: her son, Johnny Hines of Selma, AL; one sister, Stefania Krevatin of Opicina Trieste, Italy; granddaughter, Amanda Davis and husband, Ronnie; great grandson, Tyler Davis; ten sisters-in-law, five brothers-in-law, and loving neighbors, Earl and Pattie Bryant.

Pallbearers were Carlton Hines, Doyle Crout, Frank Finnegan, Earl Bryant, James Tramel and John Hines. Memorials may be made to Gideons International.

Leon Ralph James

Leon Ralph James, 53, of Selma, died Oct. 5, 2006, at his residence.

Services are scheduled for Sunday, Oct. 8, 2006, at 2 p.m. at Athens Baptist Church, officiated by Pastor Mitchell.

Burial will be held at the church cemetery.

Survivors include his wife, Brenda James; mother-in-law, Lula Mae Nettles; two sons, Ralph James Jr., and Arthur Kelly III; four daughters, Rhonda James, Carrie James, Veronica Thomas and Regina Jones; three brothers, Donald James, Willie James and Donnie James; one sister, Nancy Jackson;

and 12 grandchildren.

Anne Dunnam Rose

Anne Dunnam Rose, age 91, of Selma, died Saturday October 7, 2006 at her residence after a short illness. Funeral services are at 2:00 P.M. Tuesday October 10, 2006 in the chapel of Lawrence Brown-Service Funeral Home with Rev. Frank Calloway officiating.

Burial will follow in New Live Oak Cemetery.

Mrs. Rose was a sales clerk and office employee for Tepper’s Department Store and Leon’s for many years. Mrs. Rose was preceded in death by her husband, Leslie Lucas Rose, Sr., and her son, Leslie Lucas Rose, Jr.

Mr. and Mrs. Rose were members of the Riverview Presbyterian Church.

Survivors include; a daughter and son-in-law, Carolyn and Robert Knight of Selma, daughter-in-law, Judy (Bill) Worrell of Wake Forest, NC; two grandchildren, Jennifer (Brian) Strength and Jeff (Shannon) Rose of Auburn, Alabama, four great-grandchildren, and a nephew, Dick (Debbie) Holley of Tuscaloosa, and extended family Mr. and Mrs. Thomas Stricklin.

The family will receive friends on Monday October 9, 2006 from 6:00 P.M. to 8:00 P.M. at Lawrence Brown-Service Funeral Home.
