Betty J. Arnold

Betty J. Arnold, age 51, of Selma, AL died on September 20, 2006 at UAB Hospital. Funeral services are scheduled for Saturday, September 30, 2006 at 1:00 pm at Lilly Grove Baptist Church with Michael Thompson officiating. Burial will follow at Lilly Grove Cemetery with Miller Funeral Service directing.

Survivors include: spouse, Olin Lee Arnold; parents, Henry Mae Turner and Issac Johnson; two sons, Arthur and Walter Turner; one daughter, Wanda Turner Holmes; five brothers, Henry L., Jesse, Johnny, Levi and Edward Turner; four sisters, Geraldine Cole, Minnie Fikes, Brenda and Barbara Turner; seven grandchildren, one son-in-law, one dauter-in-law, and a host of nieces and nephews.

Ellen Bonner Jones

Miss Ellen Bonner Jones, age eighty-six, passed peacefully after a short illness,

Monday September 18, 2006.

Ellen was the daughter of Frances Lazenby and Clark Jones.

Her mother, father, and sister, Frances Lazenby Jones preceded Ellen in death.

Ellen was an honor graduate from Montevallo College in the field of medicine and retired as a medical technician.

She spent many happy times at the Jones’ family’s beach retreat, one of the first houses built by Eric Allan in Dune Allan Beach.

She lived her adulthood in Selma, Alabama and moved permanently to Santa Rosa Beach, Florida in 2001.

She loved the beach and the beautiful sunsets.

Ellen is survived by cousins, Miss Bunnie Dale, and Mrs. Bonnie Mitchell and her devoted friends Jo and Bob Henderson.

On Sunday October 1, 2006 at 2:00 P.M., per Ellen’s request, she will have a graveside service the Clark Jones family plot of Bethel Associate Reformed Presbyterian Church, Oak Hill, Alabama.

The Rev. Henry Smith will officiate and Lawrence Brown-Service Funeral Home, Selma, Alabama is in charge of the arrangements.

Mr. Theodore R. Armstead

Mr. Theodore R. Armstead, age 56, of Demopolis, Alabama passed on September 25, 2006 at Bryan Whitfield Hospital in Demopolis, Alabama. Funeral services will be held on Saturday, September 30, 2006 at 10:00 am at the Christian Chapel Baptist Church in Demopolis, Alabama.

The Rev. James Jackson will officiate. Interment will follow in Essex Cemetery in Demopolis, Alabama.

The remains will repose at the church on Saturday beginning at 9:00 am. Family Hour will be held Friday from 5-6 pm at the funeral home chapel.

Jeffrey Alan Crum

Jeffrey Alan Crum, age 26, of Selma died Tuesday September 26, 2006.

A memorial service will be held Friday September 29, 2006 at 7:00 P.M. in the Chapel of Lawrence Brown-Service Funeral Home officiated by Dr. Kenny Hatcher.

Mr. Crum is survived by his parents, George S. Crum and his wife Sherri Jeaneen Roberts Crum, his brother, George S. Crum, Jr. of Yorba Linda, CA and sister, Kathryn Crum Frieders of Yorba Linda, CA, paternal grandmother, Margaret Elizabeth Crum of Charlotte, NC, uncle, James E. Roberts of Selma, and numerous other aunts, uncles and cousins.

The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 6:00 P.M. to 7:00 P.M. Friday before the memorial service. In lieu of flowers the family suggests donations to one’s favorite charity.

Dennis Martinear

Dennis Martinear, 74, of Selma passed on September 28, 2006 at a local hospital. Funeral arrangements will be announced later by J.H. Williams & Sons Funeral Home.

LeCarl Dewaun

Cunningham

LeCarl Dewaun Cunningham was born March 6, 1990, to Lee Carl and Lisa Cunningham. LeCarl confessed Christ and joined the New Shiloh Baptist Church, Potter Station. LeCarl’s life journey came to an end on Sunday, September 24, 2006, at UAB Hospital, Birmingham, Alabama. LeCarl was a student at Dallas County High School.

LeCarl leaves to cherish his memories his loving and devoted father and mother: Lee and Lisa Cunningham; one brother: Markell Cunningham; one sister: Tyecia Cunningham; grandparents: Betty Cunningham and Henry and Ethel Moyd; great-grandmother: Lula Eaton; six aunts: Regina Moyd, Jennifer Callens all of Selma, Al, Glenda Goings, Lillian (William) Stiles, Eva Cunningham all of Selma, Al; Rhonda Cunningham of Boston, Mass. thirteen uncles:

Gus Hale

Gus Hale, age 68, of Selma, AL died on September 25, 2006 at Vaughan Regional Medical Center. Funeral services will be held on Saturday, September 30, 2006 at 12:00 pm at Mt. Ararat M.B. Church with Rev. LL Ruffin officiating. Burial will follow in Fairlawn Memory Garden with Lewis Brothers Funeral Home directing.

Survivors include: spouse, Mary L. Hale; two sons, Edward C. Hale and Lee Earnest Hale; two daughters, Janice H. Stanley and Barbara A. Perryman; eight brothers; six sisters; seven grandchildren; three great grandchildren; two sons-in-law; one daughter-in-law; nine brothers-in-law; sixteen sisters-in-law; and a host of nieces and nephews.

Sammie Quarles, Daryl Thomas, Gabriel Sharpe, Jacarlo Gunn, Jaquis Hale and Toshi Hale will be serving as pallbearers.

Daisy Glover, age 78, of Selma, AL died on September 23, 2006 at her home. Funeral services are scheduled for Saturday, September 30, 2006 at 1:00 pm at Selmont Community Church with Rev. Eugene Taylor officiating. Burial will follow at Mt. Gillard Baptist with Miller Funeral Services directing.

Survivors include: one son, Clarence Glover, Jr.; seven daughters, Sadie Crawford, Daisy White, Rosa Wagner, Mamie Haile, Madara Peoples, Edna Peoples and Armetta Peoples; one brother, Frank Wagner; two sisters, Sally Jackson and Pearl McCall; fourteen grandchildren, twenty-two great grandchildren, three great-great grandchildren, three sons-in-law, one sister-in-law and a host of nieces and nephews.

The Selma Police Department Honor Guards will serve as pallbearers.

Mrs. Carrie M. Thomas, age 72, of Demopolis, Alabama passed on September 21, 2006 at DCH Hospital in Tuscaloosa, Alabama. Funeral services will be held on Saturday, September 30, 2006 at 2:00 pm at the St. Paul Baptist Church in Demopolis, Alabama. Rev. Charlie Moore will officiate.

Interment will follow in Limestone Cemetery in Gallion, Alabama. The remains will repose at the church on Saturday beginning at 1:00 pm. Larkin & Scott Funeral Directors of Demopolis, Alabama entrusted with arrangements.

Mrs. Cassie R. Benison, age 85, of Forkland, Alabama passed on September 24, 2006 at her residence. Funeral services will be held on Saturday, September 30, 2006 at 1:00 pm at the Lloyd Chapel Baptist Church in Forkland, Alabama. Rev. Clayborn May will officiate. Interment will follow in the adjoining cemetery.

The remains will repose at the church on Saturday beginning at 12 noon.

Mattie Wilson Shavers

Mattie Wilson Shavers, 72, of Hayneville, AL died September 27, 2006. Funeral services will be Saturday, September 30, 2006 at 1:00 pm at the Mt. Carmel Baptist Church with Rev. Danny Davis officiating. Burial in David Gordon Cemetery with Bell Funeral Home directing.

Vernon Lamar Burt Sr.

Vernon Lamar Burt, Sr., 84, of Tallahassee, FL, devoted husband and father, was called by our Lord to join his wife and the angels in Heaven on September 25th, 2006.

Vernon served in the United States Coast Guard during World War II as Radio Technician, First Class, and was honorably discharged in 1945. He will be held in our hearts for all eternity.

We each cherish our memories of his special life and are thankful for the time we were blessed to have him with us on this earth. Vernon is survived by his grandson, Keith C. Burt of Panama City, FL; grandson, Mark McMillian of Prattville, AL; grandson, Ross McMillian of Prattville, AL; granddaughter, Michele Davis of Crawfordville, FL; granddaughter, Kai Page of Crawfordville, FL; and various loving great-grandchildren.

The family will receive friends on Saturday, September 30th, 2006 from 1 to 2 p.m. at Lawrence Brown – Service Funeral Home in Selma, AL followed by a 2:00 P.M. funeral service in the funeral home. Burial will follow at New Live Oak Cemetery.
